Could perhaps be the fact that laws were being broken and radio listenership was generally down in recent JNLR's. There's also Spin, the station's last JNLR figures where embarrassing not only for themselves but fot the BCI who regulates and initially licensed them.

yea but the ones who switched off voluntarily still lost their gear...oh you can't win...I lent someone all my CDs today, I'm actually thinking about what the hell I'm going to listen to tonight....like isn't that enough proof that the stations are actualy providing aservice thats not already there?

Today's events have been coming for a long time. I don't think any one station caused the boys to act today, but events like those on 105.7 recently do not help, that's for sure.
I have always expressed concern that a time would come when the authorities would lump all 'pirate' stations in together as a result of some of the cowboys who operate a transmitter and cause havoc. In some cases, the stations that disappeared today represent no great loss. But the clampdown on 'genuine' services - eg Phantom FM - whether you listened or not, make this a sad day for Irish radio. It is not the end. As long as the audiences that tuned to unlicensed broadcasts are not being catered for, pirate radio will exist. In what form it is hard to say until all today's facts are finalised, but this is not the end. |

Many of the stations tend to broadcast from the same 2/3 areas up the mountains. These locations were picked due to the good FM coverage that they achieve, but sadly it makes things easier for a raiding party to take more stuff away. Theres a well known biker pub half way up the mountains... go up there, go to the carpark and have a look around. Its antenna heaven ...
Perhaps one of the lessons learnt from this afternoon is that the pirates are gonna have to get more imaginative in choosing TX sites. DD |

Still unprecedented though (In Ireland anyway) for so many stations to be hit in one day
According to the "Irish era" website back in 1983 the P&T planned to hit both Nova and sunshine on the 18th but didnt realise how long it would take to remove ll the gear at the Nova site or indeed that Nova had seperate mountain site (during the seventies all pirate transmitters were located at the studio sites) |

There's a blank carrier on Nova 94.7 which has only appeared in the last hour or so.
What a damn shame - i thought my tuner was throwing a wobbler this evening, no sun, no nova or no freedom! How come Jazz FM was left alone? That's the only station left that i can listen to!!!! |

Will they take out 549 too? It's stupid them not giving it a licence otherwise- it will only cause huge resentment too because it is unfair treatment.

What would we all do without this great site!!
I have never been so pissed off and sad in my whole life. I dont like the word "pirate" even though thats what they are. All the pirate staions out there have put so much work and so much of their time and life into these radio stations to make them the best that they can be...to provide a service to many many listeners.in relation to freedom fm....ive been there 6 years...its been broadcasting for 8....and then its just taken away by a pack of arseholes in my opinion. I really, really hope its not the end for freedom fm or any other pirate for that matter...esp phantom and sun!!! Keep thinking positive!!!! Ill be back on those airwaves blabbing on about kylie if its the last thing i do . Thats the only smile your gonna get out of me today"""Pirates will rule the airwaves again!
