The Irish band who have done "Woman" are called Spirit. Which is weird, cos there was a best selling Californian band in the late 60s with the same name.

Not one for the mainstream, but I've just been blown away by a track that's bound to do wonders in the clubs.

Ajello - Harlem USA.... it's part of a three track EP due out soon..... absolutely brilliant tune.

Iano
30th January 2005, 03:29
Spirit ?? is that Valerie Roe's band ?? If it is , she should be ashamed of herself , then again , she rocked the music world with the Dooleys so she's a true music icon .

Cabin crew is a load of ring tone shite , its up there with ''Call on me'' Rubbish and an excuse for dance music ........Works though.

I got a copy of a remix of ''With or without you '' U2 , Probably the best remix ive heard in years , it has a very funky house beat and a superb intro , vocals kick in and you get the full song .....Excellent and well recommended if you can pick up a copy .

R&B Releases recently have been awful , so thankfully nobody is asking for ''Drop it like it's hot '' or Disco Inferno '' how the f**k can anybody dance to music thats 89bpm??

To do a cover of a classic such as John Lennons woman means theres NO respect left in the music buisiness today . Whoever suggested this track should be banned from the industry for life and made stand in front of a suicide bomber.
If it even sells 1 copy i'll be pissed off so im hoping these wankers who have released it end up cleaning the toilets in Renards .

Iano.

Iano, Just went onto Hard to find records there and did a search for with or without you. Are either of these the tune your talking about? Mix 1 (http://www.hardtofindrecordsrecordstore.com/mp3/MR107287.mp3) Mix 2 (http://www.hardtofindrecordsrecordstore.com/mp3/MR106062.mp3) Both of them were released in 2003

Methinks we're going to be seeing a lot of commercial house-type remixes of 80s songs now (since they've exhausted the 80s trance remix stuff)... I saw the other day in HMV that there's now a "Funky House Breakdown Euphoria". Blah. Having said that, looked like a decent CD.

are sunset strippers - falling stars and Cabin crew -waiting for a star to fall the same tune? ?

Ben Murray
7th March 2005, 15:44
Yeah more or less, Sunset Strippers - Falling Stars seems to have more of the vocals from the original and is more charty while Cabin Crew - Waiting For A Star To Fall has less vocals and would be more funky house.

Regarding the whole Cabin Crew Vs Sunset Strippers, according to Ministry of Sound (label behind the Cabin Crew release):

"Cabin Crew's rework of the 80's smash hit 'Waiting for a Star To Fall' has created such a buzz on the dance floor that DJs worldwide have been desperate to get a copy of the rare Australian import. Now signed to Ministry of Sound, it looks like 'Star to Fall' is on course to become another chart success!

However, a week after we signed the track, Sony-BMG, who control the master rights to the original Boy Meets Girl recording, caught whiff of the massive potential and decided to release their own previously scrapped version of ‘Waiting for a Star’.

Sony-BMG then warned radio stations off the earlier Cabin Crew import and rumours began to spread that our version contained uncleared samples and would not be released. As a result, many radio stations switched over to what they possibly saw as the only legal version.

However, we soon discovered that George Merrill and Shanon Rubicam – the original members of Boy Meets Girl – were huge fans of the Cabin Crew version and were willing to re-record their magical vocals to compliment Cabin Crew’s production!

It’s now a race to the finish with both versions of the track being released on the same date. However, with five No.1’s, ten Airplay No.1’s and over thirty Top 10’s, we’re confident that Cabin Crew will dominate the dance floor and, of course, the charts!"

As far as I know Sunset Strippers won the chart battle, seems to be the one club jocks are going with here as well.

Am only after getting my hands on this and am really growing on it because I have to say their is a hell of a stomping behind it, 2005 another failure in the way of dance but this one does it for me soo far and has to go down well in clubs, anyone agree???

not mad on the armand van helden tune, but i do like "little love - lil love" nice funky house tune, played it a few times warming up and have had a few out dancing to it. think its the soul avengers remix that i have been playing of it.

Have yet to check armand new one although his old stuff was the best. I think I'd be aswell to get a set of turntables hearing you talk about such great remixes eventhough alot of them can be got on mp3 but I would probably feel better building a vinyl collection and feel like one of the big boys for that matter.

Mr Man

Ditto, funkiest Irish tune since Luke Thomas' "Automatic"

Some interesting reactions to some songs over the past week - despite getting better the more you hear it and been dubbed "bassline of the year" by Pete Tong, Pharrell and Gwen "Can I Have It Like That" didnt do much on the dancefloor, very creative track but the Beyone Brigade aint into it (yet!). Great tune IMHO

"My Humps" went from no reaction last week to hugely requested peaktime floorfiller this week, the power of radioplay eh?! ;) On the dance tip "Love Generation" and "Waterman" are relegated to warmup tunes - the reactions unfortunately arent big enough with mainstream punters.

Westlife and Crazy Frog  That's my season of goodwill out the window if I have to listen to those shite all Christmas!

I've heard the Westlife/Diana Ross track, and even by their standards, it's a new low! I'd even go so far as to say that it's a straight digital mix, with no concept of a duet whatsoever.....mind you, having seen these guys on a TV show during the week murdering The Eagles' "Desperado"....a great song that shouldn't be abused in this way, nothing out of a studio would surprise me at this stage.

Mind you, what amazes me is why these "bands" (and I use the word colloquially, since they haven't an instrument between them - surely "vocal group" would be more appropriate ?) bother appearing on TV to mime the tracks.....it's pathetic when the TV track is identical to the studio-produced one.

Or is that what the clueless joe public want these days ? A single, one-off, one-size-fits-all track perfectly produced in studio, with none of the appeal of a proper performance ?

One to get out of your collection again is Relight my fire Take That/Lulu the record company are releasing a greatest hits collection for the christmas market

It must be ten years since the press conference that broke a million teenage hearts took place? "Back For Good" is still the perfect pop ballad, "Gary Barlow's pension" as Greg Gaugren once called it ;)

Other Greatest Hits packages for the Christmas market include:

Savage Garden, UB40, Stephen "tin tin" Duffy, Madness, Limp Bizkit, Hanson(!), Slade, Alanis Morrisette, N' Sync, Elvis, Blondie, Bowie, Beastie Boys, Eminem, Dire Straits, Angie Stone, Eurythmics and Anastacia amongst others.

One new album release Im looking forward to is Pharrel Williams' "In My Mind" on December 12th, the man is a modern day Quincy Jones

Goes without saying: RHCP - Dani California. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad really, it's gonna be played to death between its international premiere on April 3rd (or, in my case, today ;) ) and May 1st.

There's a great version of Crosses on the new Zero 7 album. Think Jose's on four or five tracks on it along with Sia from the previous albums.

The Gnarls 12" is out Friday week. Looks like Crazy is going No. 1 in the UK this weekend based on download sales alone!

Looks like Crazy is going No. 1 in the UK this weekend based on download sales alone!

Yup it made chart history - the first song to get to the top based on download sales alone, its set to stay there this week too.

Some more:

Keane - Is It Any Wonder

Missy Elliott - 123

Madonna - Get Together/Jump

Candi Staton - When Will I

Will Young - Who Am I (standout track from the album and desevedly the Pick Of The Week on 104's Juice show last weekend)

Shayne Ward - No Promises (Love it or hate it its going to be all over the radio .......... Blue meets David Bedingfield)

and - The Egg vs David Guetta - 'Love Don't Let Me Walk Away' could well be this years big bootleg

Ouch :king: my crown is slipping! I'm still gonna put my ass on the line - I can see it getting moderate airplay, but I still can't see it being played regularly or being big in any way here. Time will tell though :)! Those kids and their damn OC...

Radio:

Rihanna - Unfaithful

Fatboy Slim - Old Pair of Jeans

Pussycat Dolls - Buttons (not sure if this was mentioned yet)

Dannii Minogue - So Under Pressure

Sunblock Vs Robin Beck - First Time

Sugababes - Follow Me Home

Jack Johnson - Upside Down

Pink - Who Knew

Bob Sinclair's new one is getting alot of heads nodding during warmup, should be a big club track this summer.

Also on the club tip are:

Armand Van Helden - My My My (Joy Kitikonti remix)

Kurd Maverick - The Rub

Who's Who - Too Dirty

And Im loving the club mix of Tiga's "Far From Home" at the moment although its probably not for mainstream clubs. Wait for those pianos http://www.naughtybadfun.org/forum/images/icon_smiley_dancing.gif

From Chartsingles

Last week we revealed the lyrics to Tony Christie's World Cup song and now it's time to tell you a little bit more about his rival, the Crazy Frog.

The little critter will be releasing a cover of Queen's 'We Are the Champions' aptly re-named to 'We Are the Champions (Ding a Ding Dong!)'.

http://www.chartsingles.net/repos/2006-04-APRIL/crazy-frog-world-cup.gif

He'll unleash his single on June 5th to go head-to-head with Embrace, we will all recall the fact that he beat Coldplay to the top spot, denying them their first number one.

It's gotta be either Gone Daddy Gone or Smiley Faces... I'd be saying Gone Daddy Gone myself. Anyone else a tad disappointed with the album? It's good and all - but not up to the standard of 'Crazy'.

P.S. Nelly Furtado's maneater has been added to the BBC Radio 1 playlist - more than a month before its release. Probably a good sign...

KJ

Loleatta Holloway - Love Sensation '06 (possibly the most sampled vocal ever in dance music has the original remixed)

Busta Rhymes - I Love My Bitch (just tell us how ya really feel Busta ;))

Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours (I'll Fly With You) (Re-release)

Black Eyed Peas & Jack Johnson - Going Gone (heard it just this sec on 104, good catchy radio track)

Armand Van Helden - My My My 2006 (now with Stonebridge mixes to add to already excellent Joy Kitikonti re-working)

Solu feat. Kimblee - Fade (such a sexy vocal House tune, make sure its the Grant Nelson Big Room mix ya check. Pure quality) :notworthy

T.I. - Why You Wanna

And a mention for The Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign - Nine2Five if only for its comedic value

Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie (mentioned already but working very well in warmup. Great pop song)

Shapeshifters - Sensitivity (samples a Chic tune I cant quite put my finger on)

Im suprised The Feeling's "Fill My Little World" isnt getting more airplay, it has "summertime radio" written all over it. Excellent pop song.

On the Club tip there's Chris Lake vs KOT - "Changes Finally" Coming out on Apollo/Defected. Its the Kings Of Tomorrow vocal we had a few years back, this time over a similar sounding instrumental. Should do well.

Roger Sanchez' - "Lost" is topping Buzz and Hype charts everywhere at the moment. Its Roger Sanchez, it has pianos ....... and Tom Novy has a mix on there somewhere so thats good enough for me ;)

And another mention for Fatboy Slim's "Old Pair Of Jeans" and Solu's "Fade". Norman Cook is definitely back with avengence and Solu is easily one of my favourites of the year so far. Did I mention that its quite good? :notworthy

Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' has been deleted to pave the way for the follow-up single, 'Smiley Faces'.

This will mean the end for the duo's crazy nine week run at the top of the singles chart, whilst still available for download, as there is no physical alternative available, 'Crazy' will not be eligible for chart entry.

Smiley Faces is to be released June 17th.

So its the longest running number one since Wet Wet Wet's "Love Is All Around" and they decide to delete it?! What were the record company executives smoking when they made that call? ;)

Some upcoming releases:

Mousse T vs. Dandy Warhols - Horny As A Dandy (former bootleg gets full release)

Michael Gray - Borderline (former DMC remixer and one half of Full Intention continues his solo run with one I think that will grow on the ears)

Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man (Ms Aquilera and her baps are back. This is bound to be huge)

3 excellent reworkings of old dance classics are:

Tall Paul - Rock Da House 2006
Sami Dee & Freddy Jones Vs Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman 2006
Nomad - Devotion (SAS Remix)

All 3 are mainstream club friendly and the first 2 in particular are working very well

Sterling Void's "It's Alright" has been reworked by Chris Lake but again the original will take something special to top. Paddy Power's odds for the Christmas number one in the UK

Ricky Tomlinson - "?" (Havent read anything about the title of this yet but its favourite to go to number one @ 4 - 1

Take That - Patience 5 - 1

Girls Aloud - I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany cover) 5 - 1

All Angels - Angels/Silent Night 5 - 1

And Tony Christie has covered The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" (why Tony why?!) with odds at 25 - 1

Now to the decent new stuff ;)

P Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera "Tell Me" is a grower and will be huge.

The aforementioned Fish Go Deep featuring Tracey K's "The Cure & The Cause" is now C Listed on BBC Radio 1. They're from Cork so hopefully it'll get some domestic support too.

And finally Big Bass featuring Michelle Narine "What You Do" is a Bizzare Inc sampling danefloor monster in the making

Lol - its always the annoying-at-first songs that are huge Jol, you know that ;)

I agree with ya re: Girls Aloud - love it or hate it its going to be big. Hard to believe its been 18 years before we got a cover version of such an obvious pop hit.

Re: X Factor, it would seem Paddy Power arent even offering odds and William Hill are giving 2/7 so they must know something we dont. If Leonna wins it we'll have a big sloppy ballad at number one no doubt. She has a great voice in fairness.

Its now joint second favourite with Paddy Power with odds now at 6-1 ..... could be worth a flutter.

Girls Aloud was huge over the weekend as was Bootyluv (although its not technically a Future Hit anymore ;))

Mason – Exceeder now has a new edit with Princess Superstar on vocal duties - I havent made up my mind about this yet, much prefered the Bodyrox for that kind of thang.

Eric Prydz – Proper Education has been reloaded with a Daft Punk mix and Blondie's Heart Of Glass gets a going over from Edison on Positva - could be a biggie.

Cascada - Truly Madly Deeply is a follow up to the painful Ben Sherman classic "Everytime We Touch" and I think a cover version of one of my all time favourite pop ballads - the f*ckers! ;)

It gets worse with Dannii Minogue - He’s The Greatest Dancer, Bernard Edwards will turn over in his grave.

On the up side there's Freemasons - Rain Down Love which should crossover to the mainstream in the new year. Typical Freemasons quality. Funkaaaah!

Cascada - Truly Madly Deeply is a follow up to the painful Ben Sherman classic "Everytime We Touch" and I think a cover version of one of my all time favourite pop ballads - the f*ckers! ;)

A classic eh ........... :) It was nothing Kelly :nutter:

(I approached 'Hed Kandi' about doin' a mix...but no joy ;) )

Out Now

Pussycat Dolls - Wait A Minute (incredibly the 6th single from the album from "Nicole & The Other Five" .... and they still have a cover of Tainted Love on there they'll probably release next year. Reliable stuff as always from the girls)

Out Next Week

Eminem - You Don’t Know (already huge on some dancefloors)

Lil’ Chris - Getting Enough (loads of airplay already)

Dec 18th

James Morrison - The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore (incredible tune, amazing album)

Coming in early 2007

The aforementioned Kelis Ft Cee-Lo - Lil’ Star

Junior Jack - See You Dancin’ (heard this in July on promo - big commercial potential with the right radio edit. Mainstream House with a touch of Latino. Niice!)

Mika - Grace Kelly (he had a bit of a false start in the UK this year but this will be his breakthrough song I think. Shades of Queen about this for the radio and the Tom Neville and Linus Loves remixes could do the trick on the dancefloors)

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Catch You

Seamus Haji – Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

Sander Kleinenberg – This Is Miami

I like that Mika track alright. And great to see the Fish Go Deep lads charting in the UK. Subtle but catchy..

You heard that Gia Farrell track from the Happy Feet penguin movie?
She's only 17 too...

Very catchy

Damien Rice - Rootless Tree (very funny quote from the member known around these parts as Ivan Ego when I was talking to him last week regarding Damien's latest song with Lisa Hannigan ("9 Crimes") ....... "Its like two travellers singing a love song to each other" .... :))

Junior Jack featuring Shena - Dare Me (new vocals on this for a re-release on the 19th of next month, it looks like the aforementioned "See You Dancin'" will now be pushed back to later this year or included on this package)

Oh and rumours of the lovely Louise Nurding returning to our charts this year are doing the rounds on UK sites. In fairness she could sing Baa Baa Black Sheep and Id pay attention

I think one of the biggest songs on radio and clubs for 2007 across many parts of the world could be Hellogoodbye - Here (In Your Arms).

If it gets the right push (as it's on a small label in the US) it could be the Haddaway of the 00s!

KJ

Re: Hellogoodbye

Its good europop and I'll never doubt a tip from yourself John after you were about 6 months ahead of the pack with DJ Sammy!

Lionel Ritchie - All Around The World (Bob Sinclar Remix)

Scissor Sisters - She's My Man

Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape (slightly better than Wind It Up ;))

The Fray - How to save a life, will be huge. Already massive in the US as its featued on Greg's Anatomy or something like that. Beginning to get play in the UK.

Along the same lines Snow Patrols - Eyes Open is great too.

another one I like is Gym Class Hero's - "Cupids Chokehold" out in about 2-3 weeks feat a supertramp hook. There are 2 totally different videos out there for it. (A bit of a crazytown-butterfly about the song).

KJ, God bless your memory, I can hardly remember what I post after a week!

QM79 agree abot The Fray. They were my fav band from last year (over my head (cable car) is also a top song) and glad to see them making a dent over this side of Atlantic now.

Lily Allen's Alfie. BRILLIANT.

KJ
6th February 2007, 08:30
Girls Aloud Vs Sugababes - Walk This Way (the chorus is a bit messy but its for charity so bound to be huge given the combination)

James Morrison - Undiscovered (soulful gospel like title track from the best album in quite some time)

Beyonce - Listen (standout track from a great film)

2 dancefloor tunes that are going to be (or already are) huge in some places are:

Alex Gaudino Ft Crystal Waters - Destination Unknown (how big is this tune? well I finished up with it on Saturday night and could have played it again from the start when it was over and got the same reponse. Huge, huge commercial dance tune :notworthy )

and

Camille Jones Vs Fedde Le Grande - The Creeps (an infectious whispered "shiny disco balls" like vocal meets Fedde's filthy basslines and the result is the best dance tune Ive heard this year so far. Quality!)

Havent heard the following yet:

Melanie C - I Want Candy

Fergie Ft Ludacris - Glamorous

Westlife - Total Eclipse Of The Heart (why dont the lads go the whole hog and do an Eoin McLove style cover of My Lovely Mayo Mammy ;))

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/2c/Batch_172.jpg/200px-Batch_172.jpg

Tim Deluxe Feat The Audio Bullies - Let The Beats Roll

Razorlight - Can't Stop This Feeling I've Got (their last single if the breakup rumours are to be believed)

The Fratellis - Baby Fratelli

Wi-Fi feat. Melanie B - Be Without You

I first played
Alex Gaudino Ft Crystal Waters - Destination Unknown about two years ago when it was an American club hit and I was always gobsmacked by the fact it never got a push..delighted to hear it is about to.

KJ

Ye Jol thats how long its out alright, I remember getting the original around 2 years ago too. This remix (and the reason I played it last) contains a well known riff from a dance tune by Rune called "Calibra", its one of those instrumental dance tunes most people know of but can never put a name to - this new version is a bootleg thats been given the thumbs up by the record company for official release.

So Rune's "Calibra" + Crystal Waters' excellent vocal = sure fire commercial number one methinks ;)

Some upcoming new releases:

Aussie band called YOUTH GROUP,song is the old Alphaville song "Forever Young".Its used in Series 5 of the O.C.(I've been told!! couldn't watch that sh**e!!)and is currently number 1 down under!! Mark my words, this will be the most played song this summer methinks!!

New album due out in June but check out their last album "Skeleton Jar",super stuff!!

Sean

Okay,so that one didn't quite pan out as I had hoped!!! :o.So here's another little gem for you all!!!

New Zealand band called EVERMORE,song is "Light Surrounding You".It was used during the season finale of Home And Away in Oz last December when Sally got stabbed and this lovely little ditty was played as they showed a montage of her 20 years on the show! The song went on to become a huge Aussie summer hit, spending 5 weeks at No 1. That very emotional moment ;) reaches our shores this week on RTE,so I thought I would champion the song before it becomes "the most played song this summer methinks!!" Check out Youtube or the Home And Away site if you cant wait to hear and see everything!!

Anyway, their album is called "Real Life" and is packed full of pleasant summery goodness that makes your spine tingle!!!:notworthy. Check it out if you please, but just remember where you heard it first!!!

That track by Hellogoodbye "Here (In Your Arms) mentioned by TRSJ gets a UK release on the 30th of this month.

JoJo's new one is pretty catchy on the radio, "Anything" samples Toto's "Africa"

Alcatraz - 'Give Me Luv' gets a tasty re-rub by Cedric Gervais

Bob Sinclair's new one is getting on my tits already, he needs a new sample CD ;)

I think that Gym Class Heroes tune samples an old track by Supertramp

R Kelly's "Flirt" is going to be a monster hit, its already getting heavy airplay from 104

Oh and the excellent Timbaland has released his Shock Value album which Im sure will have many future hits, it can be checked HERE (http://www.myspace.com/timbaland)

Booty Luv - Shine

This tune has been video'd up and is ready to be unleashed on the 30th of this month. Im kinda torn between liking it or not as its a re-hash of the excellent remix by the Freemasons of the Luther Vandross tune of the same - the vocal just doesnt compare. The same thing seemed to happen with Mary J Blige's "Be Without You" when it was covered by Wi-Fi a few months ago and the latter sounded tame in comparison to Mary's gorgeous vocal.

Booty Luv's follow up will be huge regardless, the mix Im leaning towards is the Moto Blanco one who, ironically, were the remix team that made the Mary J tune such a massive success in the UK as far back as 2005. Definitely a remix duo to keep an eye on ;)

Havent heard all of these, not sure they're all "Future Hits" but here's some upcoming major releases:

Ciara Ft Chamillionaire - Get Up

Robin Thicke - Lost Without U (this guy previously went under the guise of just "Thicke" and had a big ish RnB hit with "When I Get You Alone". This is a very good RnB ballad that'll get loads of daytime airplay)

Take That - I’d Wait For Life (another good pop tune)

Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned

Stereophonics - Bank Holiday Monday

Jay-C Vs Rock Steady Crew - Hey You

Infernal - I Won’t Be Crying

Unklejam – What Am I Fighting For? (Steve Mac Remix)

And there's also a very good bootleg doing the rounds by PartyBen called "Every Car You Chase"; a mashup of The Polices' "Every Breath You Take" and Snow Patrol's sublime "Chasing Cars". Really really well put together, stays in key and everything! ;) You'll find a video for it on YouTube

Heres one for you ...

"Can't Stop Moving' by Sonny Jim. Shades of Junior Senior to it but even cheesier! By rights it should be one of the tunes of the summer.

Oh - and the video is on you tube and its 70's-tastic.
