Up to only about 3 or 4 months ago , r&b and pop were the b all and end all of dance floors in mainstream clubs .

With the emergence of quality dance music from Deep Dish, Armand Van Helden , Shapeshifters , The superb Stonebridge , Groove Armada and Junior Jack making it onto Irish radio , it looks to me as if dance is finally getting the better of the urban shite we've all had to endure for so long .

Over the past few months a lot of DJ's i have spoken to are getting a better reaction to dance as opposed to last year when we all had to put up with the bland sound of anything between 90 and 105 bpm.

Im not a big r&b or hip hop fan , but when there was decent fresh new urban music around ,i did actually enjoy playing it .
Now it's just either too slow and boring and it's starting to kill the athmosphere of night clubs .

No disrespect to anybody doing radio shows specialising in that style , but listening to one particular show tonight almost put me to sleep .
Not 1 tune that made me take notice and get excited , nothing bouncy or even remotely danceable . Bacially it was boring shite that only real r&b or hip hop fans would get enjoyment out of and would certainly never fill a mainstream dancefloor.

Quality dance , funky house and old skool is proving a winner for me anyway and the new generation of club goers are making gigs more enjoyable.

Im hoping the dance scene expoldes again and i think it will , unfortunately we will still have shite like ''Pump it up '', California Dreaming '', LMC, etc etc but at least it's a start and you can structure a set around it and get an athmosphere going again .

Long may it last . Maybe Nova Dance might get a licence but i doubt it .

Iano im sure if you listened to a bouncy hard house show noting would really take your notice or get you excited either.
Now dont get me wrong I love all the funky house getting airplay but im sure there are a lot of people that hate it. But your right about it all goin down great in clubs, and im lovin' it. My my my, flashdance, stupidisco and put em high all went down really well at an under 18's I did recently, and there all only suppose to like Scooter.

Agree in parts with you Iano - I play what people want to hear - which in my case is the cheesiest dance music around... However thats not saying that I particularly like it... I don't like the likes of Marylin Manson for instance, however I always remain openminded about different types of music because its just a matter of personal opinion and taste...

Have to agree totally with Iano (Jesus,Whats Going On?),anyways,I have found that there is a much better reaction to Dance at the moment than Urban Music. Think some people have a pain in their holes with the same old RnB Crap STILL floating about, and that comes down to the record companys,I mean 'Crazy In Love' and 'Dirrty' near two years after their release are still being yanked out, where as their is fresh catchy dance coming out alot more now, thank god too.
Personally, there is now an 'Old Skool' nite every Sunday where I work such was the reaction to the tunes,so maybe just be maybe the tides are turning.
Great example of how RnB is fading is to just see how many venues are having themed nites, such as the Playhouse Thursdays with 60's to 90's Old Skool and numerous other venues across the city! Although havin said all of this you will always get the Beyonce,Christina crowd puttin a spanner in the works, shame really.

have to agree with you there iano, funky house definetly gettin a better reaction at the gigs i'm doin. the r'n'b thats coming out at the moment just isin't as good as the stuff that was coming out 1-2years ago, not sure if i would play any of the new singles by destiny's child, eminem, kelis, christina aguilera or jamelia, not as good as there old stuff!
