Have been living in Limerick for a cpl of months now and Sunday night we decided to go out for a few drinks with some friends. Firstly we went to Mojo's bar, only been open a few weeks with a female dj who did ok but not brilliant.
Around 12ish the niece said shall we head off clubbing, the wife decided she was up for a boogie so off we went to Icon, well i will never be going in there again, it absolutley stank of sick and we where sticking to the carpet. Also the dj was c**p, no mixing ability even though he was trying (very trying). I stuppose us dj's are a bit critical when we go out but this was the worst club i have ever been in.
Anyone else have the same experience?

You should'nt be too critical of the dj , maybe he had sound problems , no monitor or bad decks or cd players .
Anyway , mixing dosent make a good dj Rich .
As for the smell of sick , it's in nearly every club i know and it's a serious issue that clubs should address very quickly . It's vile.

From what i could see he was using dennon or pioneer cd players. I know that being able to mix doesnt make a good dj, i can't mix to save my life (except to make cakes).
Maybe i was a bit to critical of the dj, after all he did have a half full dancefloor.
I'm sure others will agree that there is no need for the smell and also sticking to the carpet especially as the club had just opened.

Must ask why any club in this day and age would dream of putting in carpets! They really must have little practicle experience in the industry.
I know most people arent as critical as those in the know about music, but on the other hand people do notice when the music is well put together (not just mixing but order) and it does give venues an advantage over its competitors, usually a subconcious one.

Carpets are merely used to "soak" up drink spillages and nothing more, it costs less to clean carpets once a day than have to pay staff continously to mop up spillages, on top of that there is a huge Liability risk, ---- Drunk people + wet (tiled/lino)floors = HUGE clamis......

Hey Rich - good to see you've finally arrived.
I agree completely re Icon - it's occasionally pretty good, but I've been there a few nights recently where the music was woeful and really badly mixed.
Having said that, it's pretty much the best of what's on offer, unfortunately.
As for the smell, overcrowding and everything else, it'll be a brave person who'll open a club and have a proper door policy to not overcharge and not to pack 'em in.....I know you need a crowd to create an atmosphere, but most places seem to have about twice as many people as would comfortably fit in and be able to move around without elbowing/shoving/squashing/spilling drink, or knowing when to stop serving some idiot who reckons that limits are for wimps and boots are for puking on.....and then they wonder why there are rows
