Yes, I've always been impressed by Magic on the (unfortunately) rare ocasions I get to hear it. Is the live stream back in action?

I see this post on their Website by Nick -
The first ever LIVE broadcasts on Magic 105 were made yesterday afernoon by Andy Stewart, made possible by the Magician, and Gordon's hard work yesterday.
The new High tech system makes live broadcasts possible from anywhere in the world.
Good work folks...! :-)
Nick
So things are looking up for Magic

Yes, we have to use professional kit, even when some don't think its required.
There is a team of people, most doing it for free, and just to hear the music they love without the shrill hark of the gobshyte DJ (Lenny Preston excluded).
Its unfortunate, if not a down right disgrace, this type of format is not licensable under the Radio Authority's regime. I don't see any reason why format stations such as Magic, or for that matter other stations we could mention, could not simply be awarded a licence, and get on with the business of giving the public a choice. Currently that would have to be all things to all, and sound like Grannies Approved Bland....
The station is limiting its coverage, to Mid Ulster, out of self regulation. There is no technical reason, why we could not diplex, and serve Belfast.

Magic has been live on several occaisons , from certain locations, by the old analogue method... in past years..
Nothing like a 45mile drive before you get on air...

Magic 105 are a great station but do they really expect us to believe they get 80% listenership in Lurgan, Portadown or Armagh ?
RadioFreak
26th October 2002, 18:15
How did they come to this figure of 80% ??
Mike
26th October 2002, 19:03
Supposedly they surveyed 1000 people and 80% of them listened to Magic
They would be doing well to get 18% I reckon
Very few if any stations nowadays could credibly claim 80% listenership
Danno
30th October 2002, 21:22
i think you'll find the new promos claim that 80% listen on a daily basis...(which, under the radio-authority guidelines and Rajars rules is 10-15 minutes daily, even tho they are not bound by these)...so to get 800 that listen for more than 10 minutes every day isn't as hard as getting a one legged man to do the hokey cokey.
Then again, they can say wot the hell they want, Chris Moyles gets paid for talking out of his fat hairy one.
What you have to remember is that Magic's format is very accessible, the music is easy, and the lack of presenters during the daytime is its forte, less jock-more rock. Its non offensive, entertaining unlike some of the crap that haunts ulster, and is technically good for a station in that area.
I think I can safely say that magic is improving on a daily basis, new jocks (of which, admittedly i am one) and more commercial clients joining weekly, some huge household names too.
I say this to everyone who stops me in the street...if u dont like it, dont listen...we know we're getting more listeners, and we know that it narks some of the other stations.

Yeah I agree with most of what you say (especially the Chris Moyles bit !) but still dont see how 80% of people could be listening even if only for a few mins.
At the end of the day Magic is a good station but it ising going to appeal to everybody and especially given that probably 10% dont listen to the radio at all and a lot more only ever listen to one station (even uuuggghhh BBC R 1) I would be suprised if 80% of people have even HEARD of let alone listen to magic 105

As you know (which you don't, so I'll tell u now, so I can claim the moral high ground of a superior being). There is no franchuise earmarked for the Greater Mid Ulster area, based in Craigavon.
So Magic, and its sister Magic 90s, has to do the moral thing, ad provide a public service, for this deprived high income growth area.
Consequently, in order not to dent the incredible growth potential of this up and coming area, Magic is using a 1971 rate card, to attract advertisiers.

Would anybody know if Magic have made any adjustments to their transmission equipment? They are now coming in quite good pretty close to where I am, near Blessington.

All still in the same place with the same gear.
There was a lot of high pressure about recently, hence the good weather so it might have just been atmospherics.

Corrupt Energies
by Megawatts
Hi Guys Magic is under extreme threat from raids, by corrupt mulitinationals, who pretend to have your banal hearts at their black centres.
We are under extreme threat, we are doing our best to give you the best, in music.
BUT:- our transmitters are being attacked by utterly corrupt agencies, who have no good thought amongst them.
Magic , and the sister on 107.7 can be destroyed by these agencies at any minute.,
We have sought a licenec in Lurgan, and Ulster, but been foaught back, by corrupt local monolopily radio, who have No Interest in giving YOU, out great listerners a Great Radio Station.
We have to join with our sisters Energy 106, and KISS 10--whatever. To give you the best local service. OWNED BY LOCAL PEOPLE. KISS 106, has been attacked and taklen off the air, so that local - externally diss-interested Coroprate Mulitnationals, who do not care about YOU, and Your Music, take over our wave bands, and make us into robots.
We are Fighting to give YOU the best we can, we do our best.
Please Understand, that our signal may fall away, and our quality lapse, but Understand that we at MAGIC 105, and the sisters at ENERGY and KISS, are fighting, day by day to give you the best:-
WE MAY BE TAKEN OFF AIR ANY MINUTE, SUPPORT US., IF YOU CAN.
Our Engineers are fighting to keep MAGIC alive, they face JAIL, to keep you with Magic 105.
Peopel who wish to make your life baldn and dead are trying to take us ofdf the air.
We will fight to give you joy, and "enhanced pereception" with the secret "I.T.S."
As Radio Caroine said:-
Loving Awareness is "free".:-, Is Free.
Please Understand our stations are under Emergency threat.

ah, so its the multinationals.
I thought it was ComReg, but no. It was Ronald McDonald, Bill Kates and Col. Saunders that raided the pirates this week.

Y is their audio so CRAP??
magician
3rd July 2003, 18:10
MM m wonder who you be.!
Well audio chain is basic at the moment for a variety of reasons, mainly related to running backup systems.
Doesn't stop our listeners, clibs, gigs, advertisers...but then again I am deaf!
Magics audio could be better but I would hardly describe it as "crap"
Magic play some very good music. Pity the signal where I live (Whiteabbey, Belfast) is so poor but in fairness I have trouble hearing even Citybeat here (Damn Carnmney hill)

Magic's audio sounds fine to me.
As has already been said - the people behind the station put a lot of hard work into it and this is evident in the output.
Can it be heard completely in Mid106's TSA ?
South Derry Guy
4th July 2003, 15:52
They (magic105fm) have a far stronger/better signal than Mid106 all over Mid-Ulster!!!
magician
5th July 2003, 09:01
Maybe TSA is the issue. I strongly disgaree that we operate all oevr Mids TSA. They are Cookstown and Magherfelt and not supposed to be Dungannon. They are all over areas outside their TSA.
South Derry Guy
5th July 2003, 13:25
Yeah but their not all over this area the of Magherafelt area South Derry which is their TSA!!!

Great that Magic is back on the air, any ideas when the web stream will be sorted out? Web distribution of the signal seems a hit and miss with broadband, though dialup is available - however the audio is very unclear - sounds like another station is bleeding over the top of Magic.
Thanks
Joe
