My Schedule
Breakfast; Chris Evans when he was HOT. Charlie Wolf would be a second choice here. His Zoo style show on Atlantic took some beating. Ian Dempsey takes # 3 but only if he is reunited with John Clarke.
9am – 12; Pat Courtney. I’d look for the stuff he did with Nova in their Sound Of Europe guise. As Ive said - one of the best radio DJs these ears have heard. Nicky Cambell would be second choice here. Declan Meehan at # 3
12 – 3; Colm Hayes. A similar slot to what he had on 2FM way back when. He still has that great natural voice and wit. Greg Gaugren is number 2. Very hard to choose between the 2
3 – 5; Howard Stern. This fella might make the Irish crash their cars actually. Maybe not the best idea here but was the best at what he did a few years back. After reading his book I just love the guy, he has to be on this list. 2nd choice would be Chris Moyles. At the completely opposite side of things, smooth talking Darren Kelly would be a good back up choice here.
5 – 7; Drive; Steve Wright. I haven’t heard this guy in years but if he could capture the humour he had again it could be a winner. Tony McKenzie gets the silver medal here and Simon Mayo the Bronze. Tony Fenton is also worthy of a mention too. A great "jock's jock".
7 – 10; John O’ Hara. Who else? He was the original presenter of a Schools Out type show.
10 – 12; A chat show with a difference. Seeing as this is a fantasy schedule I’m presuming we have fantasy funds to play with. Gerry Ryan and Eamonn Dunphy AND Niall Boylan get the slot either as a duo (2 out of 3 each night) or on rotation every third night.
12 – 2; A cruise to snooze type show with the Boy Jase at the helm. Failing that the most underused DJ in Montrose Aidan Leonard would be perfect here.
2 – 5am; Greg Merriman of course! Sadly missed on 104 but I think 2 or 3 hours of his style is enough. An hour of live phone ins and an hour of Beat The Intro and a quiz to round things up.
5 – 7am; Rick O’ Shea. I know this is a bit of a regulation for the guy but Rick is just the kind of jock needed to perk up the very early risers.
Weekend schedule would include Chart shows from the likes of David “Kid” Jensen and Rik Dees. There would also be a few specialist shows from the likes of Dave Fanning, Jim Kenny, and the Radio 1’s John Peel. The dance fraternity would also be looked after with the likes of Pete Tong, John Power, Andy Preston, Al Gibbs, Mark Kavanagh, Ollie Dowling, Tim Hannigan, Tracy Lee, Gavin Hayes, Dave Lowe, Garv Rigby and Declan Pierce. A couple of 80s shows from Tony Allan and Barry Dunne would be nice also and let’s not forget about Phantom FMs Anorak Hour.
The list goes on and on. The weekday schedule isn’t realistic with all its slots and we’d need a 72 hour weekend to use all them jocks but this is fantasy after all isn’t it? lol

Funny strange, reoccuring theme coming accross here in the night time category. Where exactly is John O Hara these days ? There's no doubt about it he was (and may still be) one of the best jocks to grace the Dublin airwaves (and the only man that I know capable of mixing pleasure and work together, pint please!)
Well maybe there's one more !
I think there's a *few* more Slick, lol
Good to interesting to laughable (I'll let you figure out which is which) line ups so far, keep 'em coming peeps

have to agree with Kelly Jones's line up (almost exactly waht I would pick) although I would include Pat Courteney in there as a possible breakfast Jock along Chris Evans or Charlie Wolf. Although Pat was always better on energy 103 than 98 in the mornings (with Bob and Lisa Moore) I think.
I would have Howard Stern on the night talk show not Ryan or Dunphy in a million years
would replace Colm Hayes with Simon Mayo as my number 1 choice for 12-3 (although Colm is a great Jock).
Finally I would replace greg merriman with Chris Moyles
I am not saying any of the above neames are bad that I have changed/removed off kelly Jones's list or that the people I have chosen are the best for a radio station just that these are the people I personally would have my ears glued to.
The next qustion is what the foramt/music policy would be???? Nah leave that to another day

Nowt too disagreeable there!
(in a fantasy world)
Slicklink, John O´Hara now has the power to hire and fire everybody here and in the UK!
So, as such while we all play "silly little games" here - he actually holds the key to the destinys of many a jock within the Capital groups network of stations.
I once asked him if he´d go back to jocking.... I know the answer!
But that´s for me to know and you to find out!!!

Cheers John, the fact that Im getting a compliment from one of the most clued up fellas in the business is all good. Nice one.
The idea of putting Howard in the night time chat slot is an interesting one to say the least. Those old men in the BCI might have an aneurysm though, lol ;)
Keep them coming

Anyone know what happened to Margret Callinan formerly of the old Breakfast show on 98 about ten years or so. She uset present a saturday mid-morning show with Jimmy Greely. She was quite talented i thought.
Does anyone remember Noel Clancy that uset present the Midnight - 6am slot on Radio Nova back in 1985. I guess one could include those jocks on my fantasy weekend Breakfast show.

Dan ,Euan , Herbert , or whatever you call yourself today why do you have to go against the grain all the time . Is there not one DJ on todays radio that you feel is good enough for a radio station.

Dan, what does the word "uset" mean?
Steely Dan
21st June 2002, 02:25
Wheetus, My spelling is not great. So how do you spell Uset? Concerning Jocks, i can change my point of view about presenters on air. Thats how my mind works.
Now, Jim, your accusing me of been three different people. The only name i use on this board is Steely Dan and no other. Is that okay with you. i hope so.
Secondly, I realise one made a number of errors and misjudgments in my recent postings. I admit i was wrong. Apologies to all you radio anoraks if i came acrosss as been downright patronising and snotty.

hmmmm ok I'll give it a bash..
National Station for a start, Name YOUR FM (Say really fast to yourself)
Starting at 6am-9am Breakfast Music per hour 45-48 mins
My Presenters
Nikki Hayes & Steve G
Reason: Personally I think Nikki sounds great and a upbeat voice is great in the morning.. Steve G then contrasts her with a easy to listen to voice which would come across great together on the air, and they know each other too.
9am-11am Talk Show,
This one is a tough one for me beause I like a lot of talk presenters.. Niall Power for one, then Niall Boylan, Chris Barry another and Adrian Kennedy.. If I had to choose from one of the four it'd have to be Niall Power..
Reason: He's been at Beat on his own now for the last year and I think he's done a fantastic job there (keep up the good work Niall).
11am-2pm Music & Request Show Music per hour 50-52 mins, A show to unwind especially coming up to lunch-time.
My Presenter
Rick O Shea..
Reason: He's just what you need for this slot really..
2pm-6pm Drivetime Music per hour 47-52
My Presenter
Tony Fenton
Reason: I think Tony is a great presenter and has a fantastic voice.. Would love to hear him nationally again...
6pm-9pm More Music Requests Music per hour 50-52
My Presenter
The Sexy Martina O’Donoghue
Reason: Great Voice and is very talented.. Like her on Red FM, and cos Cork Women are just great, she'd be my 6-9pm...
9pm-1am Late Night Talk Show
My Presenters
Niall Boylan and Adrian Kennedy
Reason: I think both of these would be great together on the air....
1am-6am Overnight Music
That's my bit will put up the weekend schedule when I think it up..
FlippinMental
29th June 2004, 21:11
Do you mean Steve K with Nikki Hayes? If so I think they'd be a perfect match
