There's a new mast going up at Clermont Carn (maybe its complete by now). Anyone know what its for? Surely it can't be a replacement for the existing tower; it would never take all those big microwave dishes.

any thoughts?

There is a new tower on 3 Rock too. It is narrow with two platforms and guy wires to hold it up. The top few feet is an antenna for the new digital terrestrial TV-if they ever get around to installing the rest of the equipment. They are still going to retain the current mast for phone links etc. This extra mast is to allow simulcasting of digital and analogue for many years but it seems as if the death of itv digital may prove that satellite was always the way to go.

We can argue that on the TV board.

Where exactly is Three Rock?!?

I'm an ignorant Englishman, and even I know that it's south of Dublin! ;-)

Well the BBC seem to be convinced that there is a future for DTT but not as a pay TV platform. Im inclined to agree. A lot of people dont want subscription TV

Incidently if youre in that part of the world Claremont Carn is always worth taking a drive up to and the road up there is quite good only dont get lost coming down like I did a few years ago and end up going over the border into unknown (and paranoia inducing) country only to emerge in Omeath miles from anywhere :-(

Yes when you inadvertedly drive into de black narthe, you may find people with more than one head... but its usually safe enough.

They have electricity way up there, but only for parts of the day, and there is running water, but boil for 20 minutes before ye drink it.
