View Full Version : Picking up Ch4 and other UK terrestrials
Firstly i want to know how you get Channel 4 on the Irish Sky Digibox, is there any process that will allow you to do it?.
Secondly, i can remember years ago, hearing about a guy who had a massive TV aerial on his roof in the ROI, that allowed him to pick up BBC, ITV, C4 etc from the Northern Ireland terrestrial transmissions, can anyone shed some light on how to do this, and perhaps a website with some information on equipment or anything?.
Please could you help me on these two things?.
Thanks

There is no way of getting C4 on an Irish box legitimately. It is not available in the RoI, but it might be in the future. THe only way around it is to get a free-to-view card from a UK address and tie it, either to a UK registered box or your own box (but without the correct serial nr). I think www.satellite.ie may be able to help you.
Depending on where you are in Ireland it might be possible to pick up either the NI or the Welsh terrestrials. Otherwise cable is the only option to get them all at present.

Using an aerial pointed at the North or Wales it is possible to get UK stations. If your area has line of sight to these places and no cable watch out for aerials pointed that direction. If you see them then contact a local installer who can advise. If you point at wales you get S4C not CH4 It is done down the whole east cost and in the border counties. Normally reception is bad a few dozen days a year but thats it depending on your location and the type of mast etc.

To get all the stations I need in my bar I need a Scottish, Irish and UK box. C4 is on the UK box. Sky1 has been taken off Sth Beam and is impossible to get in Gran Canaria PLUS Im using a massive 3mtr dish. u definitely need a uk box.

If your asking advice about Terrestrial TV reception please indicate roughly where in the country you are. For example someone in ROI in places near the border might get the UK stations with a cheap 10-element yagi (certainly not a 'massive' aerial)
Further away from the border people in the midlands might have TV aerial installations taller than many broadcasting masts to get NI TV!
At the other end of the spectrum someone in the middle of Co.Kerry doesn't have a hope
If you reply with your location I'm sure someone will be able to advise you
