TV5 has refused NTL premission to relay its nightly French news bulitten as part of the Euronews block on City Television, sources have revealled. NTL had earlier this week announced that it intended to relay the bulitten as part of its European news service, which currently comprises of bulittens from ZDF, RAI1, and TVE Internationale. It seems NTL had neglected to consult TV5 before making its announcement, and had neglected to negotiate a carrige deal. It appears copyright law may prevent NTL from recording and relaying the bulitten later, as NTL had planned.

The move comes after NTL's relay of the French presidential election was botched by a technical fault with TDF, the French television transmission company. A fault in the signal transmitted by TDF caused cable head-ends throughout Europe to lock out. NTL Waterford corrected the signal quickly, but NTL Dublin took a while longer and missed out most of the coverage.

Meanwhile anger at the axing of the channel continues, with French teachers, students, and the French-speaking community continuing to protest to NTL. Clearly this is one issue which will not go away...
