It brodcast from above the Xtravision on the Whitehall Road in Templeogue..... has the yearly piss up in The Pines stopped ?

Andrew Mangan did breakfast. Emmmmm who else was involved let me see Damo McCaul, Steven Davitt, Ronan Brady, Garv Rigby, Chris Young, Mike McCoy oh yeah and the poster before you Kelly, Mike Ormond who obviously hadnt time to share a few memories of the station he jointly owned with Kev.

Here's a story for you though (dont know how true it is, actually I do but anyway).... the station was being raided and the raiding party where happily bouncing the ex_Nova mixer down the stairs of the station while one of the station owners looked on(denying any involvement of course), meanwhile up the hills 2 Kiss DJ's who shall forever Dave Lowe and Stevie D where frantically temporarily relocating the main tx elsewhere.... hillwalking was there claim awhen asked by the gurads what the hell they where doing up the hills at that time.

Well Malty give us a story ! How about the station manager who always has a valuable ciontribution for the board, Well J

THE KISS 103 SCEDULE IN 1994 (correct me if I'm wrong)

7-10 Andrew Mangan( Dave Adams)
10-1 Tony Dixon (now 104)
1-4 Chris Young (now Sun FM)
4-7 Steve K (Now Spin)
7-10 Garv Rigby (Star Djs)
10-1 Steve Davitt (ex Owner Pulse103/now internet/magaine interests)
Garv went to 98 and Steve K went to Americay and the schedule was changed to

7-10 Steve Cooper (having left Anna Livia!!) (now 104)
10-1 Kevin Brannigan (now running an educational internet company)
1-4 Chris Young (Sun FM)
4-7 Andrew Mangan (where is he now)
7-10 Damien McCaul (2TV)
10-1 Steve Davitt
Other jocks included Ronan Scanlon (now on SER), Andy Preston (Now 104), Dark Mark Mitchell (Ferg Rigby), Connor Glennon (Now 2FM), Gar Skelly, Ronan Brady (ex owner P103), Sean Power (yip the Freedom one), Paul Kavanagh(yip the Freedom guy), Mel Byrne (subs Pulse now Energy)The Wicked (I kid u not!), Cliff Walker(SER) and Smokey Towers(Tom Cole) Miles J, Jeff C,George (went to work for 104 for short spell).

Ralph Mc Garry/Mike Ormond looked after a “clever” sales and marketing policy which was to say the least naive. How do you get advertising revenue flowing into a radio station very quickly ? Simple go to your competitors clients and offer significantly cheaper rates with the guarantee that the market audience would be maintained. This inevitably led to the jamming of Kiss FM’s main TX from the Ballast Offices on O’Connell Bridge…… the greatest TV tunes ever was the CD used ? Yeah I think it was, nearly sure anyway , then Kev and a certain JK where (hang on better stick in "apparently")having a battle of wits with Kev moving down the band towards 104 and JK successfully cutting out the on-air link in 104 (was it Donal O Reilly and Dara Maloney on air at the time and due to the messing going on they couldn’t hear themselves).

Hows that ?

I remember been on the way to a mobile gig on the night of the closedown. I insisted my driver tune into 103 and we weren't to unload anything till Kiss signed off .............. yet the name of the final tune escapes me

Anyone?

Mike also used the Travelling Wilburys to close down Signal 106 in 1988!

The one thing I can remember about the Kiss site was that there were loads of chickens around the farmyard...very noisy chickens when disturbed, as they were one day when me and an associate went DFing the Kiss TX site (hey - its 8 years on I can own up to this shit now!). Great alarm system...chickens start making noise, and we were out of there before farmer brown could take out the shot gun and start roaring "Get orf moi land"

Actually, perhaps we should've borrowed those chickens for the Sunset TX site, might have kept visitors from Clondalkin away!

I have Melodie MC "Dum Da Dum" on CD single if anybody wants a copy.

That fraggle rock tune was by a group called "Simon" and the track was called "Fragmented". I think on the credits it mentions something about the pirates and thanks to 'Benny & The Sunsetters' (or something along those lines).

Have that as well if anybody wants it. Why I don't know, as it sucks! :)

Great to hear the old memories of Kiss 103 FM which, incidently, would have been nine years old earlier this year (????). Its great to be able to think back on that time - it was very different than the pirate situation of a month ago, and anybody who was involved in Kiss hopefully would agree.

Ralph was never actually involved in sales, he used to do the Saturday night gig from 9 to 12 (as he had done in NSR), and there was NEVER a policy of us going to 104's advertisers trying to poach them at cheaper rates! (I'd love to know where you got that from Slick??!) What actually happened is that we found our own clients and 104's reps heard them on Kiss and declared them open season. I still hear Pozers and the Atari Expo on 104 fro time to time.

Lots of stories come to mind about the various raids at the time, how some of the pirates lent us gear, how most of them thought we deserved it for raising the stakes (or getting above ourselves), meeting Detective Inspector Michael Clifford in The Pines for an off-the-record chat as Sean McKensie and him calling out "Hello Kevin" from accross the pub (brown trouser moment there.), Darragh and Andy running accross the fields with the transmitter while the Department were coming over the ridge, then being questioned by the cops (and confused DOC guys) right after Darragh puked his guts up, Clifford telling the farmer that the two guys were trespassing on his land and Farmer Joe saying "they're not the only ones!", getting chased up and down the band by an "unknown" jammer and having the surprised satisfaction of beating them at their own game by making them jam theirselves - and most of all the closedown when all the punters came down to the studio while we closed down..

must dig out the photos.

The website timing out from certain ISPs is a DNS issue which should be be resolved tomorrow..
