Hi Guys,

Have a bit of a problem at the moment. I'm a mobile Dj and have a chance of getting a regular gig in a hotel. All their functions. Sounds great.........upwards of 50 gigs per year. But they want an INVOICE (yikes) for every gig I do for them.

Is there anyone out there vat registered or are ye filling out a tax form at the end of the year. Who do I go to see about registering or would I be better off filling out the tax form and paying the P.A.Y.E.

I already have a full time job so the tax might sting a little but for 40 or 50 gigs wouldn't it be worth it??????

I'm gigging in other places also and there's never been a problem with invoices it was always a cash arrangement.
Anyone out there with some advice??????

Best thing to do is contact Reveune @ 1890 60 50 90 explain your situation without giving your PPS number, alternatively if you know any accountants give them a shout and see what they say.

You have to decide if you want be "self employed".

If I can be of further help you can PM me.

Why not register a company and run it that way, so you can write off equipment purchases on a more sound basic

Cheers Guys,

1. As far as I Know if I register a company I'll only be paying Vat@13.5% BUT then i have the hastle of keeping full records of the gigs I do and getting the occassional consultation from an accountant. Sounds like alot of hastle??????

2. Where as if I go for the other option I'll have to keep a record ok but then I'll just have to pay the tax man after a simple maths calculation. 21% or there abouts of the gigs. No Accounts No accountant. Am I right in Saying this????
Add up the total invoices and give the tax man 21%????

The money doesn't worry me I'll be adding this on to the bill anyway so at the end of the day i'll be still coming out with the same for a gig it just seems like the second method is a lot less hastle.

DJs registered as a sole trader company pay 21% VAT. *But* you only have to register for VAT if your company earns over a certain amount each year (25k?). The up side of registering is that you get the VAT back on your phone bills, etc. Either way, you have to pay income tax on both your normal job and your company.

Sorry Turiel,

Not sure If I'm getting this or not.

There's no way so I'm gonna earn enough to register for Vat. Does that mean so I still have to register as a sole trader?? And how do I pay my paye?

Is it like I said above. Just fill out the tax form at the end of the Year?

Sorry to keep going on about this.

Can anyone just tell me what to do. e.g. Go to the tax man and tell him bla bla bla.......he'll give you a form bla bla bla......fill it out, pay the tax.....something like that?

Audioman, here's the deal and the way alot of guys including myself work it!

Register with revenue 1890 203070, they will issue you with a PSN number which will more than likey be the same as your current one! Quote this on all your invoices! You don't have to register for vat unless you earn over 28K a year! But its better to do it as you can claim all the vat that you pay on you mobile, gear etc back every two months!

Now Revenue will send you out all the forms at the time you need them and tell you when you have to send them back!

They'll tell you more on the phone or you can call in to their office!

Hope this helps

Barney
