Donn't know if many of you do the odd teenage disco like myself or whatever but this current wave of grungy "i won't listen to ANY other music unless it's good charlotte or whatever" teenage music facism is beginning to annoy me a bit. The problem is they don't have a real genuine reason for liking it..it's just cos at the moment it's all considered 'cool man'. It reminds me of the days when every cream cracker wrecked every djs head looking for 'rave' music all the time and you got the the usual 'turn off that shite'.

It's sad when a dj, radio or otherwise has to submit to this, because they feel they'll lose their audience or the dancefloor will clear....and so by appeasing them it he/she obviously perpetuates the whole phenomena. Its a cycle that hopefully will end somewhere. There should be a balance between audience and dj..ie. the dj shouldn't over-dictate what the audience gets, and the audience shouldn't over-dictate what the dj plays.

It's just that like 'rave', the new rock/metal is all beginning to sound so bloody samey.I turn off the radio now when any of it comes on...:ranting:

so hearin ya Jay - my head is seriously wrecked with RnB in clubs. I remember bout 4 years ago, when dance was "fashionable" if I played an RnB track, they'd be like "get that off - I want Mauro Picotto" and now if ya throw on a bit of dance all I hear is "jay-z and beeeeeeeonceeee". Thankfully haven't had to deal with the trash metal as yet - PHEW

I guess when people are out they always just want to hear what they like so people are always going to be whatever you're playing telling you turn it off it's sh**e! LOL no win situation

I had 2 girls, bout 9-11 year olds come up to me at a 21st recently done up all grunge, one was even wearing white make up (It was like Morticia Adams Mini-Me, freaked me out!!) and asked for "some good heavy metal" so I pretended like I might play some and asked what they would like to hear. As you can imagine I laughed my ass off when they said "BUSTED!"

God love them. I used to have my big doc martens, parkah jacket with patches and all. No zoot suit though.

I always thought it was funny to see the indie kids all dressed the same, 'cos they were showing us that they were all different from society by liking EXACTLY the same music and clothes as their friends.

(teenage years spent in the UCD Bar and the William Tell. And Radio Dublin too but I don't like to talk about that)
