In my situation of 40ft above ground, in the middle of a dense town,What would get my signal out better, a 5/8wave verticle or a dipole???

gangstatear is probably right. 5/8 waves do concentrate the power ito a narrower beam but the beam doesnt go out at a perfect 90 degree angle but is tilted slightly upwards so a lot of power is being radiated up towards the sky

The colours represent different levels of signal strength.
FMDX what software do you use to generate those and ay chance of doing some for Castlebar Co Mayo with 5w 30w and 150w for a rooftop arrial on a two storey building ?

I know they represent different levels of signal strength. My question is how strong is the yellow etc..
