as far as I know today is d-day for clubs. It will now be illegal to have any entertainment during drinking up time. Which means no music, no dancing no .......

It is now illegal and a criminal offence to dance in Ireland when the bar shuts which apparently will stop people from drinking as much even if the bar is closed!!!!!

Clubs that have a liceanse till 1.30 on a thurs,2.30 on a fri and sat and 1am on the other nights will have to stop the music at that time.

Also happy hours and drinks promotions are gone from today

sitting here in work with not much to do, so for the fun i rang a garda station in the capital to ask them what do they consider to be a drunk person, all i heard at the other end of the phone was silence so i asked to speak to a more senior officer, he came on to the phone and i posed the same question. off he went on a rant about the youth of today blah blah blah, i then asked him the question again he told me it wass up to each garda to deciede if someone was drunk, so there is going to be fun in the courts when a garda has to tell how he knew someone was drunk !!!

With the new law, Gardai are allowed if needs be to on the spot test people as if like on drink driving cases. So That means if anyone puts up any trouble with the gardai saying they are not drunk all the gardai have to do is breathalyse them.

its funny that the people that are meant to be doing the law enforcing don't know the laws ?????? or how to enforce them either

meant to say this in previuos post, what amount of achohol is comsidered too much by a breathaliser ??? the same as driving, habe two pints and i can get fined for being drunk.
there is nothing that says how much is too much, its not like the drink driving laws, x amount you are over the limit, there is no set limit in the new act, just a vague statement, the first case in front of ther courts should be fun.

your honour the person was drunk.

prove it

we breathalised him and eh eh,

yes,

he had been drinking

but does that mean he was drunk ?????

its vague isnt it ????

The breathyliser tests the alcohol level in a person. It has been proven that different levels of alcohol from the test provide different information. This is from an official web site..

"Impairment from alcohol poisoning was originally defined by blood alcohol levels. It was observed that most people showed measurable mental impairment at around 0.05% blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Above this level it has been found that motor functions deteriorate progressively with increased blood alcohol concentrations. For the average person, unconsciousness results by 0.4% BAC. Above 0.5% (BAC), basic body functions such as the breathing or the beating action of the heart can be depressed to the point that death can occur"

check it out yourself people, the machine does not lie!!

for the first time in the past few weeks i agree with you ted, that the machine does not lie. but a machine can only give readings, from the data given, it can not give an informed ecision on an indivual person, every person is different and while there must be a level for drink driving , going out at night and saying i have had 4 pints now after the next one i WILL be drunk, the machine says i'm drunk so i must be........

its the vagueness of it all that makes me scratch my head, drunk and disorderly is fine, he was messing fine him, there is something to back up the fact he was well oiled.

but just to say drunk is fague. the machine has set levels inside and just measures and processes data, what do you think ???

Its the full Intoxicating Liquor Act 2003 document, just in case anyone is interested what is in the actual law.

Be careful when you buy the next round of drinks for your friends, if they're drunk you can be fined €2000 for each drink you buy them. Seriously. Ok, its not likely to be enforced to that extent, but still....

Was doin a gig tonight in a bar. 11:30 da Garda comes and tells me to turn the music off NOW. The place was packed, i was just gettin into a little oldskool set the peoples were dancin and singin. I had to cut the track half way through. Got loads of dirty looks and a few booo's. I forgot the law was changing yesterday, woops. It was great coz i got home about 11:50, very handy.

Im looking forward to tonight, finished at 11:30 again...

Is this a good thing for the Disco Bar DJ or is it a disaster? I dont really think it will make a difference, but thats just me! :)
