Online quotes for car insurance for a fairly bog-standard 1.4 for a 32-year-old male with 15 years claim-free driving...

Quote 1 - € 906.41
Quote 2 - € 1000.35

Same quote for 32-year-old female, same details:

Quote 1 - € 611.39
Quote 2 - € 710.78

Apparently, I've got a 50% no-claims "discount" in there somewhere, too.

So what makes some gobshite in an insurance company reckon I'm more of a risk than a 32-year-old female ? Without knocking the genuinely decent female drivers that are out there, there's no way in this wide earthly world that an average female 32-year-old driver is a better driver!

Are there better male and female drivers than me ? Probably. Are there worse male and female drivers ? Definitely (I've seem some of them).

Ironic thing is that my first own-name insurance 9 years ago was "only" IR£790!

Shower of rip-off merchants, the lot of them! If they really wanted lower insurance prices and make the roads safer (instead of happily milking the cash) they'd lobby for speed limiters in all cars.

Now this is an issue we could all post opinions on for years Liamo and still get no where .
Basically insurance companies are a bunch of f**king legalised extortionists who are about as corrupt and The LA PD .
If i stole money off you , id be prosecuted and sent to jail , but insurance companies obviously have immunity to the laws of the country .

Example ..i claimed for a broken windscreen last year , got said windscreen fixed , but they left me 25euro short because of administration fees . So i called into their head office expecting Jeremy Beadle or Noel Edmonds to jump out with a gotcha , in fact i was hoping so. Got nowhere so i just got pissed and forgot about it .

Then to make matters worse , i got my quote for this year in the post last week , jesus christ , i thought they were making me an offer for my f**kin house . Looks like ill have to get my paper round back ................Robbing ba***rds.

Okay - go figure this out.

I rang a brokerage for a quote for myself for fully comp on a car a was looking at nuying if my car failed the nct.

It is a 02 Mg ZR 1.4 valued at 14,000 - quote 2720

my car somehow passed 95 Opel Astra valued at 2,000 - quote 4200!?

How in gods name does this work out!

It defies belief really , im still trying to figure that one out ..erm ??
No sorry Macers , im as bemuised as you .

One problem this country is facing is the cost of public liability insurance . Setting up your own buisiness is a thing of the past now because we are all prepared to sit back and be taken for a ride by letting these bastards rip us off .

Navan carpets is closing because their public liability insurance is almost half a million euro per year ,. How the f**k was that allowed to happen ?
Solution ?? We all [ the whole f**kin country ] refuse to pay insurance until Bertie and his circus of clowns step in and start making legislation to control these criminals [cause thats what they are ] and prosecute them if they fail to comply .

Will it work ?? probably not but i had to have a rant before i go to bed .

Iano.[ill be alright in the morning ] ????

It's OK guys....I've thought of a plan.

The next time some feminist asks you if you think its fair that men be paid more to do the same job as women, answer "Yes, because it costs us more to be able to drive to work to do the feckin' job in the first place!"

lol

Actually Liamo i tink thats quite a reasonable explaination for men being paid more, seeing as women are the superior gender mwhahahaha! :D

OK, here's one for you.

I'm 28, fully licenced for about 9 years and claim free.
I drive a 1998, 1.4 Astra and pay around €1300 for fully comp.

My wife is also 28. She's on a provisional licence. Drives a 2000, 1 litre Corsa and pays €1000 for fully comp.

Now here's the strange part. My own policy is open drive, which means I can drive anyone's car and I'm insured.
So when my wife went to renew her insurance, we decided that she'd take me off her policy as a named driver.
To do so, would see her premium jump to €1400!!!

Also, if I added her as a named driver on my own policy, it would cost an extra €250.

??? Did I read that right ?

For your wife to TAKE YOU OFF her policy would cost her an extra €400 ?

Yes, that's right Liamo.
They wouldn't give her a proper explanation as to why, just a line like "that's just the way the system calculates it".
Needless to say, she kept me on the policy.

Brendan, the reason you pay far more than your wife is because you are a typical man. As soon as your ass touches the car seat you are doing doughnuts at 190mph. You also are drinking and shouting abuse at grannies and young girls. killing sheep is one of your hobbies and you boast about being able to talk on 117 mobile phones while driving (men!)

Meanwhile your wife drives at 20mph, keeps 4 hands on the wheel at all times and is scared of going fast. Thank god for women!!

No wonder us male bastards have to pay higher insurance, sure we earn too much any way! and what for? sitting on our asses!

I'm still trying to figure out who the 25% were who wouldn't support limiters, and how come they didn't post here to explain why ?
