View Full Version : Coast 103 Galway
Can anyone remember any of the jocks from this station, and where are they now?
Can anybody even remember the station.
Details anyone?
When were they on etc.

The station was around the late 80s. I think Tony Allen did the vos.
I remember a very shortlived relay of Coast 103 from Galway appearing in Cork City in September 1988! The reason why I remember it being September was because they were running promos for an Outside Broadcast to mark Galway being in the all-Ireland hurling final!
It was around the 103 mark on the dial (hadn't a digitial tuner at the time to say the exact freq)
I presume this transmitter was rebroadcasting Coast 103's Limerick transmitter.
As I said it was very shortlived, only on for maybe 2 weeks or so.
Romano's South Coast Radio may have had something to do with providing the relay, because I remember them saying hello to Romano listening in Cork on the air!

Nah........Jon Richards NEVER had anything to do with Coast, as my as he would have love to be involved. He was with the country and Irish station.
Yorkie, Steve, Don, Richie, Walshie and even Tony Allen on occasion 'banged' out those hit. What a slick station it was......

Yep..... you're right rig. I had to check my records, but J. Richards moved directly from WLS to County Sound (nice jingle pack too).
Where are all those guys now??????????????

Most of the crew from Hits 954 in Limerick (a spin-off from ABC Waterford, if I remember correctly) moved up there too, AFAIK - Stuart Clarke was definitely there, and I remember promos for "Coast Hot Hits 103"....."Ireland's first pan-western broadcasting medium" being run on Hits old 101 tx in Limerick.....think that idea died a death pretty quickly, though.
I have some recordings somewhere, so will root them out and put them on the website http://homepage.eircom.net/~liambyrne

Steve Marshall
Tony Allan

Coast came on air around 1987 and stayed on until 31/12/88
and the next day..restarted as Quinncentennial Radio the next day:)
Great outside broadcasts, real tight slick station, great music,
and most of all one of the best broadcast teams ever in a radio station!
Also Tim Richardson of Richardson's Bar in Eyre Square, last time I looked had a picture of the Coast 103 team in the bar, in pride of place:)
Jon Richards never worked for Coast 103, however he did work for WLS, and then moved to County Sound
Don Allen was involved with Radio West!
Plus we did broadcast to Galway, Limerick, and Cork!
Really fun radio station!

One memory I have of Coast was during their overnight relay of Nova Europe with Liam Quigley at around 1/1.30 am one weekday morning....
Quigley played a request for anyone listening to the Coast 103 relay in "Galway in the west of Ireland", and for the crew who were listening in Richardson's Bar in Galway, then realised the time, paused, and added "aaaah, shouldn't you be heading home by now, guys?"
Never did hear whether the cops had been listening at the time.....

Before Coast relayed the Nova Night Network, we rebroadcast early transmissions of Richard Branson's Radio Radio....
