I guess you mean pirates. Jumping frequencies is fine - if the one you are going to is clear! Clobbering an existing user just gets you a bad name and frankly, I'd have no sympathy if the ODTR came a-calling on the offender.
I don't know that much about the pirate scene in Dublin but I would hope that there would be a spirit of "We're all in this together". Recent events seem to dispell this! Such behaviour is quite likely to end up with offenders being "grassed up" to the authorities and things will quickly spiral from there.

I would agree, it is wrong to blast over another station no matter how small they are!
Ger Roe said it today on the Anorak Hour; the MW band is there... there's nothing on it...why don't some stations that don't have a large amount of listeners free up the FM band and go to MW.
Its our only option, the FM band in Dublin is a nightmare!
Ta!

A good point TOWK but unfortunately the kids want stereo sound, heck I want glorious stereo but things *are* getting a tad cramped on the band to say the least.
Having said that all speech driven or small community stations should consider AM or MW ........ there was a debate not so long ago that Newstalk shouldn't be on the FM band wasn't there?

There were a few eyebrows raised with the Power/Swirl situation yet David C and Brian C seemed to have worked that one out. What's a little less easier to accept is Radio Dublin's blatant bullying of Cabra's Choice FM (a woeful station, but that’s not the point). What's the latest on this situation?

A lot of the frequency congestion could be solved if
1) All stations confined themselves to a single channel
2) Stations stopped "driving up the middle of the road" by using 0.4 or 0.5 spacings when 0.3 would be sufficent
3) Stations only covering part of the city were prepared to move to accomidate larger stations (who have fewer available channels) PROVIDED that there was a suitable alternative channel for a low power station
4) ALL stations took care not to interfere with legal, cable and cross border services

Sounds like its time for a spreadsheet!
The same is true when picking frequencies for a legal stations; first throw out the frequencies which are taboo then see what's left. Anyone fancy doing one? Allow let's say 300kHz either side of 3 Rock and Kippure frequencies as well as cable ones. Add in the locals and community stations (noting that they may not cover the whole of Dublin.
It might throw up some inefficiencies in the current band.

Just close them all down including pirates and allow the BCI to ask interested parties to apply for their new licences again One way to solve the congestion and possibly get a decent set of radio stations for the Dublin area.
Oh by the way Justin and Brian,Stop been technical, with these 0.4 .0.5 Spacings jargon, your confusing people.
