Recently a mate of mine, who is a DJ in clubs and pubs around the country, Got into a scuffle(While off duty!!) in a pub he had been working in for the past 2 yrs. A scuffle broke out and the end result was him leaving his job, and from the "Bouncers" View - Barred from entering. Is this Right Or Wrong knowing the person so long??
Also I Went to a venue 2 weeks ago. I'm 24 yrs old and haven't been asked for i.d or refused entry to a club in 7 yrs! But still at this "Club" i was not allowed to enter even after showing my work ID which is from a reputable company, for some reason.
Then the funny bit.. i went back at end of the night to meet friends and was allowed in to find friends and then given an invote to go to a Free drink nite there, by the manager?? Whats that all about??
Have Doormen changed for the better or worse over the past 5 yrs>? What ya think??

Well aside from consistently ID'ing me even tho' i look well over 18 (for a 19 year old) i haven't had all that much hassle from them.

Many venues won't let their staff drink there whilst off duty, as a safeguard against them ever getting into any fracas.
Whether it was right or wrong with what happened to your friend, it all depends on the circumstances of what happened. Being a member of staff does not make you exempt from house rules.
As for your company ID being refused, the current legislation only allows for government endorsed photo ID such as passport, driving licence, or Garda ID.

well knowing ted and knowing the circumstances of what happened to his mate, it was out of order, he was assaulted, did not retaliate, went for the doormen and they blamed him. these were out of order.
overall these guys are nice to your face but will do you over whenever they feel like it, i've been in this business ten years and a lot of changes have taken place, its no better now than it ever was and the new laws ( anti discrim ) are useless.
and when you say driving licence , a lot of places will only take full driving licence for some reason,
don't get me wrong , there are some very good doormen out there, the ones that pervent rows as they can see they are going to happen and then there are the guys who just work to pull women and spend their night chatting women up instead of doing their job.

I generally don't have any problems with them now, I did when I was under 18 but I spose thats understandable....I do have a mate whos a bouncer though and he told me before that they get so bored, they decide before people even reach the door "The next bunch aren't getting in" Just to amuse themselves. How annoying is that?

Isolated cases, all of them. Door security have to decide in about 10 seconds that you look ok, not too drunk, will you start a fight, or generally not what this club wants in their venue. Yes, there are some rouges out there in the same way that there are very bad DJs that give our reputation a bad name.

Well, I tend to come under the "not what the club wants in their venue" heading because I look very young. The fact of it is though, I'm not. So is it right for these bouncers to refuse me? I actually wouldn't get in anywhere except the local pub if I didn't use my 'contacts'. Oh, you can quote the law all you like regarding discrimination over age, but all the bouncers have to do is come up with some other reason for not letting you in. I've been told twice that I've "had too many". Kinda funny considering I don't drink!

for some very strange reason i've started being asked for i.d. again.....i'm 24 and not a hope in hell i look under 18........... here in limerick they are a law unto themselves and it has now become a lottery as to weather you get in or not .....unless you're a girl..definately gotten worse in the last 5 years

Wouldn't this be nice!
A German nightclub says it has doubled its turnover and reduced the level of violence after it started using naked women as bouncers.
Management at Beatclub in Cologne came up with the idea as a way to combat troublemakers.
Club goer Stefan Wurz said: "It makes standing in the queue a lot more fun. When they come out on the streets they have to wear a coat, but it's not fastened and there is plenty to see. It takes your mind off everything else."
Wearing high-heeled boots over black suspenders with a fur coat open at the front Linda, 26, says the job is easy and more fun than being a dancer which was her previous job.
She said: "You get to meet people, and I haven't had any trouble at all. If they are over 18 and well dressed, they have a good chance of getting past me."
Beatclub boss Philipp Sommer, 26, said: "With our new bouncers we wanted to try and tone down the atmosphere of aggression that often exists."
He added that the idea had also boosted visitor numbers and added: "It makes the entire visit to our club an enjoyable one."
I was @ spirit last night and I find the doormen down there more than lovely. Anytime Ive had a problem with friends not getting in they try and help out without being snotty. I think security in nightclubs is becoming more personable and not the person with more brawn than brains as it used to be although there still are many of them around :)

There are alot of good bouncers in Dublin but like every job, there are one or two that are just power freaks.
I want to a Christning on Sunday and when we got to the door, my friend (whos 29!) was told he couldn't come in unless he took out his ear ring! Are we living in the 50's or something?
We all left, but i think thats bang out of line.
