Im sure most of you are now aware of the new comission set up by the government in order to prevent the increase of public order offences in the country . The latest plan by the justice minister to combat his so called ''out of control '' nation is to close all nightclubs at 1.am .
Correct me if im wrong here but , pissing or causing a disturbance in the street after hours is hardly the fault of pubs or nightclubs and if i want to kick the shit out of somebody in Dame street on a Friday night it's not because ive been to a nightclub , it's because im that way inclined and dont have much intelligence or awareness as to how i should behave on a night out . Basically im either a scumbag or just a typical dublin ass hole who'll do it anyway regardless of wheather ive been to a nightclub or not .
A lot of people on this board depend on the nightclub industry to make a living just like me , and to let this idiot come up with a pre-historic idea such as this and be allowed to enforce it says a lot about the type of nation we are .
Most decent clubs provide a friendly fun enviornment where people can enjoy themselves , are we prepared to let this fool take it all away just because he's worried about his public image and cant think of a better idea ??

Amazing how for the months leading up to the last general election, "public disorder" issues were pre-empted by the Justice Minister ordering increased numbers of Gardai on the streets at night.
Immediately after the election, he ordered that overtime be minimised, thus decreasing the patrol numbers.
I know several members of the force, and they found the whole approach to be ineffective (probably because they're now losing out on overtime), and a blatant publicity stunt in order to win votes.
Now he's clutching at straws in finding a way to deal with street disorder, whilst keeping costs down.
The new proposal is ridiculous. People will be leaving the nightclubs earlier than the punters from the pubs at the weekends.
What next?

This country is going backwards instead of forwards when it comes to such things.
Let *all* clubs have the option to go till 6am music wise (with the bar closing at, say, 3) at the weekend. All of them will opt for different closing times (some 4am, some 5, those who are feeling maaaaaaaaaad - 6) and as a result there'll be less people spilling on the streets at the same time
This city's nightclub industry is in big trouble as it is, it doesnt need this

if he takes this matter serious(or has he already?), is there anything we as dj,s can do to change the minds of said ministers, as we have no reprisentation i guess its up to us as a body to do something.
what exactly is he doing to try inforce this????
would the unions of club workers and barstaff have to agree to this aswell??
seems to be the minister is not doing his homework in regards to this fastfood est. situation. anything to do with trouble, fighting, making noise etc. ect. seems to be the fault of the clubs and late bars in his head.

DJ's in clubs/bars havent a voice in this - not a chance. The many politicians who have shares in pubs *will* ;)

quite a few dj's are registered for tax and vat of which i am one of them, and on the closure issue i think staggered closing hours is a good idea, from half 12 to half 3 then not all the beautiful drunk people would be on the street looking for taxis and causing trouble at the same time

Where do you see more fights? Defintiely not inside most niteclubs due to the level of security that's in almost all of them now. Would closing Supermac's not be a better option? ;)

Never mind closing clubs @ 1, having to close up at 2.30 is a joke, where i dj we have a theatre licence so we can stay open until whenever we want (although we always finish up around 4am), More clubs should get themselves a stage sumwhere in their premises and apply for a theatre licence. The only places i know of that have one are the tivoli, spirit & the viperoom, but im sure theres others (fill me in..). As for djs paying tax, it seems like were all going to have to do it soon (god forbid! a dj with a prsi number!) I know most of the venues in dublin city centre all require tax paying djs. This may seem obvious, is it like that in the other parts of the country? I know it definitly isnt in donegal!
