I agree with Dearg on this one , it was like being at a gig in Unique Boutique .
Extereme clubbers my f**kin arse , good clubbers wouldn't be caught dead at a Godskitchen , it's for the ''Story Bud '' brigade and the line up of DJ's are playing a style of dance that lost it's appeal 2 years ago .
Thankfully it's taking place in Cork , at least decent clubs can carry on as normal without having to worry about getting their tabels and chairs broken up .
Godskitchen ?? thanks but no thanks .

Marco V and Tall Paul would probably be the only credible jocks in the lineup.
Van Dyke & Tiesto - success because of MixMag-ish hype.
Judge Jules - The Keith Chegwin of dance
Van Burren & Corsten - wishy whashy MixMag reader friendly trancey shite
Not really an lineup for the serious clubber, but a menagerie of commercial djs.

Hi Lisa, saw your post here and you complaining on clubbing.com regarding what I (and others said) re Godskitchen. Its not the music I have a problem with - its some of the the large gigs attract. Nothing to do with musical snobbery or anything else (I'd have to know something about music first)!. Its just that last time I went the place was full of ballyfermot warriors who couldn't handle their drugs.

Hey Lisa , im sure you enjoy dance music just as much as i do . I too have been to see the big names , Dave Pearce , Roger Sanchez , Pete Tong and enjoyed every miniute of it . Difference was , i saw these DJ's outside Ireland and 95% of the clubbers , looked good , dressed sexy , very friendly and behaved themselves , unlike an event here . It's scumbag heaven and unfortunately it's not about the music anymore with them , it's about ''how f**ked they can get '' . Nobody was trying to offend you , we were just pointing out one of the reasons good clubbers are lookin elsewhere . Maybe they should have held it in Limerick .

Ian, and Kelly. Why are you having a little dig on this thread ?
As Lisa said it is a forum for Dj & Clubbing Scene. Now this is a thread about a clubbing event. So it is entitled to be on the forum along with the views of any member of the forum that wants to post in it.
Weather you like the type of people that attend the event or the people that post about it here is irrelevent. You dont know them and to tar them all with the same brush is in my opinion very narrow minded.
Ian I could turn around and say that you sound like a stuck up wannabe witha put on D4 accent who loves rugby and Heino who thinks he is cool sitting beside his computer is his black polo neck jumper. But the fact is I dont know you any better than you know B****-C***? so I think you should keep non construstive comments like the above to yourself
Iano
4th February 2003, 13:34
Well Darren , thanks for your compliments , and i agree everybodys entitled to be on the forum with their views , including me .Wheather you agree with my views or not is beside the point . I wont drag myself to a level where im going to slag you off Darren , and polo necks and points of hino have nothing to do with what the thread was originally about and sitting beside a computer is hardly my idea of being cool .But everybody has an opinion Darren and if everybody agreed with each other life would be boring .
I dont have a problem with dance events , but i do have a problem with the scumbags who attend them , the same scumbags who have given the dance scene in Ireland a bad name and dragged it through the mud . Most of the music played at Godskitchen lost it's appeal to intelligent clubbers 2 years ago so the only market left is the tracksuit brigade .
Maybe you should check out places like ''Cafe de Paris ''[london ], ''The Crystal Room '' [Brighton ] , or ''The Maze ''[lisbon ] , then youll see real sexy , well dressed cool intelligent clubbers having real fun .
Non constructive ?? it's my opinion Darren and i dont really care wheather you agree or not . but thanks for yor interest in my dress scence , i bear it in mind .
Now i gotta go and work on my D4 accent .
See ya .

4th February 2003, 13:56
lol @ ian,
go on ya mad thing.
i personally think its a waste of time and money going to these events, i mean u spend half of the night trying to get a drink thats probably only gonna get knocked over by some half-wit, coked outa his head, or just outa his bin on something or another, the dublin clubbing scene is being led sray by a bunch of people who's only way to have a good night out is to get outa there bins and cause mahem while dancing to cheesy dance music or worse tech trance. i was in 1 of dublins largest clubs the other nite doin a gig and i think i was the only one who hadnt done any drugs and the amount of times i had people ask me for drugs was countless.
i rest my case.
by the way thats just my opinion, i am entitled to my own. am'nt i?
debatable!!!

Just to pick up on something that Ian said, clubbing isn't about being well dressed. It's about letting your hair down with other likeminded clubbers. It's an escape from the humdrum rut of Monday to friday life and you don't have to put on your fanciest clothes to enjoy it.
The 'well dressed' issue is one that has been created by club owners/management in order to keep up appearances. Many of todays clubs have relaxed their dress codes in the past few years.
But it's a catch 22 as I'll explain below....
I wholeheartedly agree about the scumbag issue, to an extent.
There are many out there who have given the culture a bad name, and you'll find them in abundance at such events. Probably because they can't get in to a club in the first place, so these events are their only access to the scene.
Most of them miss the whole point of clubbing. Their idea for a good time is to go out, get bladdered (sixteen pints of Bud and a half bottle of Aftershock), hurl chunks all over the floor (50 bonus points for splattering an unsuspecting bystander), try their hand at "gettin their ho-will", and have a decent scrap before hitting the nearest kebab outlet.
Pure lager louts they may be, but they are still experts at souring the whole clubbing experience for everyone else and tarnishing the whole perception of the culture. And it's that sort of behaviour which puts others off from going to clubs. It's a knock on effect......Put off enough people, and you've got a serious lull in the 'serious clubber' market. Get enough of a lull, and a club hasn't got much of a choice but to relax their entry policies, allowing more of the troublemakers in. Then the club gets a bad name, making it increasingly difficult to shake it off and appeal to the serious clubber again.
Power tripped door staff is another reason, but that's another argument for another forum.
Darren B
4th February 2003, 15:06
Ian, firstly Id like to say I wasnt trying to slag you off. I was making a stereo typical post in a sarcastic way.
As for you points that you have made. Why do you have a problem with these scumbags that attend these events ? Althoguh they may not be serious clubbers and might just be going to get off their head and hammered drunk they are entitled as much as the next person to be at these events. After all I thought clubbing was about going out and enjoying yourself. So what if they enjoy themselves in a different way thats their perogitive.
Surely as a serious clubber you would be going to such an event to enjoy the music played by your favourite dj's and have a good time with your friends ?
As for clubs like Godskitchen losing their appeal to intelligent clubbers I have to disagree. What do you consider an intelligent clubber ?
I would consider myself one I know my music, dj's, Im a travelled clubber worldwide (Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Germany, UK, Italy, Ireland obviously) I listen to all types of dance music from Drum & Bass to techno, to tech house, to progressive and enjoy them all although Trance and hard trance are my favourites so to me the music policy that godskitchen adhere to is right down my alley.
Surely your not going to come back with some pathetic response that only house, progressive or techno are intelligent, as Ive heard this so many times from people I describe as musical snobs. As Mark Kavanagh once said One mans cheese is another mans caviar. No one dance music style is better than another. Yes I have my dance dislikes garage, jungle, cheese (ian van dahl, scooter etc) and to be honest a lot of less clued in clubbers thing that this kind of scooter, dee dee, flip & fill trash is trance which couldnt be furthur from the truth.
As for the venues you have mentioned I have actually been to cafe de paris, its was a nice venue, decent music, good atmosphere but nothing extra special although I do know the point your trying to make.
As for Steves above post
"i was in 1 of dublins largest clubs the other nite doin a gig and i think i was the only one who hadnt done any drugs and the amount of times i had people ask me for drugs was countless."
Firstly you and I both know that this is a major exageration, secondly I have djed in both the type of venue Steve is referring to and also comercial clubs/disco bars and no matter where you are there are people that take drugs. One particular trendy club in Dublin which I wont name (just off grafton street) which I was in only a few weeks ago with this supposedly better crowd as you seem to think had more people coked off their head than I have ever seen in my life. So I find it amazing for people to make outrageous statements that insinuates (spelling ?) that only this tracksuit brigade takes drugs in clubs
As for these scumbags dragging irish clubbing through the mud and giving it a bad name. How so ? I cant remember hearing about any fights or arrests at these previosu large dance events in the point. In fact as somebody that used to frequent the Temple theatre a lot a few years back I can only ever remember seeing one fight in there ever where as you go to your local pub, disco bar and you are much more likely to see a fight although you might not want to admit it.
The fact is thse drugged up scumbags are so out of it and loved up that they are in no mood to fight and thats why you see less fights. FACT
Pesronally I dont think I will be going, not beacuse of these scumbags, or the music policy or dj's but because
a) I dont fancy waiting 30 mins to an hour for a drink
b) it starts to early and ends to early
c) the crow that will be at it. And when I say this I dnt mean these so called scumbags but I mean the 15 and 16 year olds that are allowed entry. (Which is an absolute disgrace) maybe we should be giving out about this rather than something that to me is far less trivial
chump
4th February 2003, 18:27
I agree with everything darren has just said.
Also, from my experience of attending events like GK, you only care about the music being played - you dont care about whether there are scumbags around because you're enjoying yourself so much!!
steve reilly
4th February 2003, 20:31
ok exagerated just a little bit,
u actully just mentioned the club im on about darren (superclub), but you know aswell as i do darren that dj'in for a crowd like this where most of them ar outa there head is not like dj'in at all it takes the challenge out of it, lets face if theres a hard beat to it they will dance to it. no fun for me.
any way im going off the subject now.
good call on the 15-16's just like cream, i passed by the point that night to do my show and the Q was full of kids throwing there ring up outside, girls in some state (locked), loads of under age girls in fluffy pink boots and mini skirts.(this can only cause trouble in my view). not my piece of cake at all.
Darren B
5th February 2003, 09:44
cant argue with that steve
he who knows
5th February 2003, 13:35
the phrase intellegent clubbers has appeared on this post a few times, so what is an intelligent clubber . Il attempt to explain .
having worked around europe [not djing ] i have had the pleasure of attending some of the best and the worst clubs on offer and without being judgemental i cant take irish clubbers serious because of their severe lack of knowledge of the club scene .dress sence plays a major part and im not talking shirt and tie here , im talking about looking the part and making the effort .most ''serious '' clubbers will notice the music before anything else and having an open mind on different styles of dance including , house , funk , soul, jazz , hard house and trance seperating them from the ordinary '' trance is king '' idiots .
Dance dosen't stop at one particular style and unfortunately the irish scene with the odd exception , is laughable from what i hear on some of the pirate stations on the air . getting pissed or high is part of dance culture , always has been and knowing what your dancing to while your doing it makes it even more enjoyable .
but remember , the music is the most important ingredient and a talented dj will make it worthwhile if you make the effort and appreciate what he's doing . intelligent clubbers will accept everything associated with the scene and wont make idiots of themselves while having fun .
Darren B
5th February 2003, 13:43
the above posts makes a fiar point. But what I dont like is that everybody is tarred with the same brush. Its been said that a serious clubber wouldnt go to an event like Godskitchen which I think is utter nonsence.
I consider myself a serious clubber Ive been clubbing all over europ as I have posted previously I have been to see everybody from the sneaker pimps, to judge jules to Sven Vath play and listen to all styles of dance music. Just because Trance is my favourite style shouldnt mean Im not a serious clubber.
I mean a statement like that is outragous.

I would also consider myself a 'serious clubber too'. Have been to clubs in France, Spain, England, Germany, and all over Ireland and it just so happens that my favourite style of dance is trance like darren. Does this also mean im not a serious clubber??
Maybe you should change your name to 'He who thinks he knows'??

Fuk sake ppl relax will yis. So what if its Trance or house or funky or whatever its still music.
That "serious clubber" thing is fkn stupid. Well for one I would certainly class a lot of yis on here as Non-serious clubbers for the way that ye just went on rantin and raving. Clubbers just dont do that! Serious Clubbers shud unite etc etc not put each other down cos of wer they live, what accent they have, what they wear or even what drugs that they do! Its all about who you are not what you are and that kinda shows ur shallow and very narrow minded.
A few people came across in this thread as very ignorant and snobby. Thats why Irelands dance scene is the way it is today, because people like you bein to fussy/snobby/ignorant all of the time. At the end of the day someones idea of clubbing is a totally different one to yours, its all opinion based and if you cant accept someones opinion then it goes to show how shallow and immature you really are.
If people stopped the argument of my music is better than urs, der not real clubbers cos they wear tracksuits, I'm a better clubber cos I dont wear furry boots, I'm superior cos I drink Heineken when I'm clubbing, (sorry but I had to say that) then the club scene would change for the better.
