You and your top tens Laney  :D

For me:

The Lakes - Jimmy McGovern's finest hour. Television that reaches inside your soul and squeezes it dry, leaving you totally drained. If you haven't seen it, take it from me, make it your life's mission.

Cracker - Jimmy Mc Govern again. The man's a genius.

Fawlty Towers - anymore need to be said?!

The Young Ones - often imitated, never matched.

The Office - oh my gawd! How amazing was this!

Not the 9 O'Clock News - changed tv comedy as we know it.

Shooting Stars - strangles the tv game show format in the most delightful way.

Dawson's Creek - there. I've admitted it. OTT, but for some reason i love it.

Only Fools and Horses (but it should've stayed dead)

A Fist of Fun - with all the repeats these days, this totally underestimated series still lies dormant. Paramount, this was made for you!

A Bit of Fry & Laurie - one that Paramount DID resurrect, and delighted they did too.

Brookside - circa 82 - 93. Esp the Jimmy McGovern episodes. That man again.

Soap. Wonderful American parody on its own soap tv shows.

I think i've gone above the 10 limit!

22nd January 2003, 16:26
Hate to state the obvious but yes...

1) Alan Partridge !!!
After that The Office is defo in the running,
how could ye forget about another recent bag of humour Phoenix Nights . Class act.
Has anyone seen Dead Ringers on BBC2 (I think!)?? V good. not a classic mind you.

Alans most famous line...
(while making love to his partner)
(while rubbing her left breast)
Alan: Should I maintain this momentum or should i quicken the pace?
Partner: No Alan thats fine
Alan:Should I progress to the right breast?
Partner: Whatever you like
Alan: What do you think of the pedestrianisation of Norwich High Street?
Partner: No real opinion, why do you ask?
Alan: Sorry I'm just trying to keep the wolf from the door!!!

Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Batman and Robin -- the tv series from the sixties.

Pure unadulterated genius.

They got Adam West to take the whole thing seriously and it goes to disprove the otherwise definite that the funniest stuff is that which is closest to the truth , The Office , Frasier , etc.....

My 2 cents... :)

My favourite line.[from B&R]
Robin(while perched atop a machine in the corner): Holy Radiation Batman, The Bat-Nuclear-Reactor is in critical meltdown.
Batman: Ok.
Robin: I think i can fix it if you pass me the Bat-Screw-Driver.

need i say more.

For me, Cheers was one of the best sitcoms ever.
Fawlty Towers is timeless.

Match of the day in its prime.
Top of the pops in its prime.
Both eseential viewing.

Folks, I can't argue with most of your favourite progs. However, one that springs to mind and hasn't been mentioned is Hill Street Blues. To me this broke the mould in TV drama. I believe it set the trend for programmes such as NYPD, ER etc, which came after.

What do ye think?

Twisted Sister

NYPD Blue

The Sopranos

Austin City Limits

Nobody mentioned Have I Got News For You.
Except me.
Fans of Trigger Happy TV should watch BBC Three (on BBC 2 if you havent got it) tomorrow night. His new chat show looks like the biz.

I swear that was not me you saw on Garda Patrol!!

DeargDoom
21st February 2003, 21:19
OT but here goes...

a. In the first ever Crime Line aired on RTE, the robber in the first reconstruction made his getaway wearing a Q102 hat!

b. Former FM104 production guy Kevin Branagan was the getaway driver in another reconstruction. (Unless it was an actor that looked like Kevin and Kevin was the ACTUAL getaway driver, but I don't think so!).

c. I once saw a mate of mine featured on the CCTV footage they used to show. Did I grass him up? Well.......
