RTE say on Aertel that construction of a new mast at Clermont Carn will result in some viewers experiencing difficulty with television reception.

Is this a replacement for the existing structure or an additional one?

I guess it must be a replacement if it is close enough to require reduced power while work is in progress.

When RTE were installing aerials on the new mast at Spur Hill some weeks ago I noticed the power drop on the 4 RTE FM stations and Today FM from there. However nothing was said about this on Aertel!
In fact by accident I noticed the power being increased again (with a tuner with a signal strength meter to an outdoor aerial) one evening around 5PM on Today FM around the time this work was taking place, they must have been turning down the power during the day, turning it up again in the evenings on all 5 FM stations.

Re. Clermont Cairn
With the link below the new mast is on the left (does not look like it is completed)

Looking at the photo, I would say that this is an additional structure rather than a replacement; it certainly won't take those 2.4m dishes.

Its common to reduce power while riggers climb through or work near high power antennas. In this case I assume the reduced power would be while work was in progress on the new mast in the main beam of the existing antennas (no mention of the FM being on reduced power I note).

So, back to business; what's the new mast going to be used for?
