ITU has Officially Endorsed Digital Radio Mondial for all AM broadcasting under 30MHz

DRM is it!! It means that 190 countries say DRM is it, for the future of AM (long distance) broadcasting.

DRM provides near FM quality to an AM signal. Its already been approved by the TEC, and PAS and ETSI.

This allows for existing frequencies and bandwidths to be used.

How cheap the receivers will be, and how soon its actually implemented is another thing.

Maybe RTE could use 252 to start the bakll rolling???, and make the receivers in Ireland... with a nice grant from the EU?

RE: Making recievers in Ireland

Unfortunately the days of consumer electronics manufacturing in Europe are more or less over because of competition from the low wage sweatshop economies of Asia Turkey and Eastern Europe. I think Theres still the odd factory in Britain and Germany churning out videos and high end TV's but thats about it.

Thats the price to be paid for being able to buy videos for fifty quid in Tesco

The oldest stereo in my house was made in ireland, and so was a long-dead macintosh plus computer so that tells you how long it's been since any electronics were built here in a big quantity.
