Ok we all know the usual songs that go down well at a wedding or party i.e Brown eyed girl and sweet Caroline.

Can we put together a list of the best party tracks ever?

I have a few Christmas partys coming up and i need new songs?

Come on Lads!!

Not classics but I mixed Punjabi MC into Addictive when warming up on Friday and they are MADE for each other

An interesting crowd you play for Dearg! I've never actually played either of them, but i'd imagine Word Up to suit the 20-25 male age group, and then you're switching into another genre (rock. kinda) which would suit 30+! No wonder it cleared the floor!

Is anyone getting many requests for Girls Aloud? I've yet to get one, which I've thought is quite strange. And its not even a floor filler for me yet either.

hi Ian and Turiel, I suppose it all depends on the skill of the jock in question, but keep up the practice lads, and you may get there yet.

It very much depends on how good the crowd are I think!!

If the crowd are happy to let their hair down then everybody walks away thinking the DJ was fantastic but in fact its so bloodly easy to play to a group of people that are up for a good time.

I did a Christmas gig last night in a Pub and I played everything from Frank to Deno,Kylie to Nelly and The Wolfe Tones to The Emotions and it was a great night..

Why ?

Because Im fantastic?

NO

Because the punters were..

I could go somewhere else tonight and play the same set and clear the place?

How on earth could i forget (don't laugh :D) YMCA by the village people - especially at weddings - even my granny would dance to that :D

I was jokin Dearg , [ but you knew that anyway ] .radio friend is bang on , 80% of it is the crowd and we just do the rest .

A classic from the 70's, can't remember what or how I played it into but Liquid Gold, Dance yourself dizzy!
Had to play it twice, and the crowd went mad for it!
Any other 70's tunes (that you wouldn't normally hear on radio like the above that work a treat??)

As was stated, depends completely on the crowd:

Racey's "Some Girls" (which actually mixes nicely into The Pointer Sisters' "I'm so excited", if you're doing a hen night!)
The Stunning - Brewing up a Storm
Brush Shiels - Fields of Athenry
Sham Rock - Tell me Ma
Proclaimers - 500 miles
Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
Village People - YMCA (but don't play at a crowded pub gig or you get a live version of the Heineken Christmas tv ad - sorry James :o)

Lots more, but depends on the crowd - play stuff that suits them and if they're on for a laugh, some craic and a good night out, an OK night suddenly becomes a brilliant one!

Weirdest crowd-pleasers I've ever encountered (not my gig, but one I was at).....Joey Scarbury's "Believe it or not" and Murray Head's "One night in Bangkok"!

i done function,s for over 3 years, and pubs alike, and two tracks i will always play and go down a treat are "THE DOOP DOOP SONG", (old kinda dancy but a classic in itself and it even has its own dance:-). the other used to be chris eubank's walk on track, "THE GRID SWAMP THING", dont care what any1 says they always go down a treat.

Hey....I don't make the rules.....I just bring everything with me and see what goes down well.....Some Girls will ;)

Admittedly, though, of the above, only the Proclaimers and the Buggles are pretty safe bets.

And quit slaggin' me off - Swamp Thing was a Line-Dance track wasn't it ?

I always find that ABBA go down a treat. Punters also think they are really good musically.

To be honest Party Fiend I normally do a total ABBA gig for my private parties. I try to work the crowd. Maybe this is the thing for you, but then again I do hang out in petrol stations quite a lot so maybe not. But I do have a great sense of what makes a quality radio broadcast, so yes maybe you should stand up and take note.

RadioFriend
14th January 2003, 17:23
Are you taking to me or is there a poster called Party Fiend?
What are you talking about?..Petrol Stations?

Whats that all about.....

And for the record I do work the crowd ...and yes I agree about the old ABBA tracks being a winner but is that all you have to add?

RF

Alan Partridge

Yes Radio Fiend that was for you. We all make the odd spelling mistake... ('you taking to me').
Anyhoooooow, if you mix some ABBA with a bit of RunD MC (with a hint of Jam master J) you'll be somewhere near where you need to get to. If you're feeling really adventurous dig out some Europe. Did you know they are Swedish? Ah yes. Well some of that back to back with the others and you're on the pigs back.
Thats my nugget for today.
