I'm confused, I can't recall ever being speechless, yet right now, I don't know what to say. Which to me makes absolutely no sense because I've loads to say, it's just that it's all over the place in my mind.....

Basically, take nothing for granted.

This time last year, through my own (drunken) fault (Christmas season and all that) I thought I'd had my cd's stolen. I had never felt so helpless.....for that hour or so, when the boss of the club I played in turned up at the bar I was also playing in ( I was sitting there depressed and wondering what to do),.....WITH MY CD'S and RECORDS!!!!The night before, I thought it was a good idea to leave them in the club.....JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE (as I was in a slight state of drunkeness).
I never wanted something like this to happen ever again for real.

Last September (2 and a half maybe 3mths ago) I was going for a meal with friends before work, so I parked up, left my record bag in the boot of the car beside the strip of bars I work in (around 8pm) and off I went for the meal.
I returned at 11 to get the music....and the car was gone!!! STOLEN.
Anybody on the board who knows me should remember. To cut a long story short, I got the car back 4 days later, not 100% intact, but the boot hadn't been opened, so I got my music too.........HOW LUCKY WAS I ??!!

Yesterday I arrived for work early (wonders will never cease!) only to find my DJ booth had been ransacked. Everything was all over the place....except my cd's! They say bad luck comes in three's, well worse luck couldn't come a third time. My main caselogic had been stolen, the bar had been burgled.
What I'm trying to say, for God's sake don't let them out of your sight, and I'm sure one or two of you now are saying to yourselves, that f****r is only looking for sympathy....as if that would help me now! I'm trying to give you some advice. I thought they'd be safe in the bar I worked in. I play there 7 nights a week! Obviously not.
I remember when I first started in Pulse FM, the same happened to John Power, and I remember it happened to Vinny S. You have no idea how bad it feels until it happens to you, I swear.

Even if you're in town BUYING music, and your case is in the boot, DON'T leave it there bring it with you, where ever your going, be it Abbey or HMV, seriously, there's always some scumbag ready to get you, even more so this time of year.

I mean it.....BE CAREFUL!!!

All the best and Happy Christmas,

Tony Langsford. :(

Maybe DJ's should consider backing up their CD collection onto hard drive ?

Although hard drives arent 100% reliable either Ive had two crash on me already

True. I have "some" on hard drive but, as time passed, laziness set in and no "backing up" continued. I don't think many dj's actually have time to back up their music, especially those who work more than 4 nights a week. I work 7 nights a week, normaly get to bed around 5 maybe 6, and sometimes later.

Same thing in theory happened to me Tony came home to my appartment and found every thing ransacked wrecked and my
CD caselogic missing along with my computer and gaming software . Sick is no way near how I felt , to make matters
worse I got them space saving plastic folder cards so I could
get hundreds of cd's in the case - still to this day two big black#
bags of cd cases lie just outside the madradio studio to remind
me on how careful you have to be with your music jems - but
to be honest you can never be carful enough theres always some
scumbag out there watching and listening and waiting for you
to slip up or when you turn the other way as happened to a
friend of mine in a dj box in our fair city only last week under his
very nose. The worst thing about it the case is irriplaceable and
priceless to you yet the scumbag would take 50 - 100 pound
for the lot and not think twice

I've been lucky enough. My old car actually got broken into but nothing (including my cd cases) got taken. I think they ran off or something.

But anyway, besides for being careful with you CDs, copy all your music to your computer. Seriously. It's probably easier for me to say since most of my music is downloaded anyway, but whenever I get a new cd, I just stick it in the computer and rip it. It's not an awful lot of work unless you buy loads of cds at a time.

I have a good idea (at least what i think is a good idea)

Put together a list of maybe 200 tracks that you use in the clubs each night ...Then we take a list of people at this site that use MP3 software on this Forum.
We spilt the list and share the task of downloading what Michael lost.
Its very simple guys...If there are 10 guys that are willing to help then its only 20 downloads each in one week.

We take our 20 tracks ,burn them to a CDR and send them to our friend above.

In one week he has a full bag of tracks back..

More hands,Less work....
And when "if ever" it happens to one of us we all pitch in again

Wow, wasn't expecting response on that. I'm starting to build it up. It's such a long a gruelling task, it's unreal. Thing is, there are so many tracks that I wouldn't even remember having unless I sat down and had a think for hours. They aren't the bread earners though are they? Maybe not, but the look of surprise a punters face when one plays the odd fave from the early 90's is priceless. Thanks for the support again,

All the best,

Tony Langsford.

Thats so true, and I would hope to think that any Dj with a little bit of decency, and maybe 1 or 2 morals, WOULDNT buy another djs cds, not unless they knew them and could return them....along with the thiefs head and hands enclosed................
