Just been listening to Tipp Mid West online. They've just played a mystery singer competition. Nothing particularly unusual there except this one has been running for 82 Weeks!

I have to say, its a jolly nice tune and I'll no doubt enjoy listening to it again next week if no one wins tonight, but 82 weeks?

Apparantly, last week, they asked the listeners if they should just call it a day and start a new competition but the answer was a resounding no!

You can keep your sophisticated city stations, this is the one for me! I do hope they manage to retain their franchise.

so whats the prise and lets say for the sake of the arguement :

its a cash prise and they add (last year when the competition was 30 weeks old) £10, now that the euro is in doe they add €12.70 every week

even if the prise was increased by 1 euro a week it would surely make a nice prise by now

when is this competition on will give it a listen

It was Tuesday evening between 1000 & midnight. I think the prize might be one CD per week.

More Country & Irish than you can shake a stick at!

Radio is the same everywhere but Radio is completely different in many parts of the country.
Is my opening sentence a complete contradiction?
If you say yes………I agree…but let me try to explain myself…
All Radio Stations agree on everything except programming?
AIRS, IRS, ISDN, IRN, INN, TRAFFIC, COOLEDIT, MD, CDR, OPTIMOD, PROTOOLS, SOUNDSCAPE, OB’S, HOTLINES, RADUGA, ROBOJOCK, RADIOMATION, BLA BLA………………………..

What im saying is that the concept of the day-to-day running of a Radio Station is straightforward across the board? Until it comes to programming.
I have been working in Tipperary Mid West Radio for ten years now and while the Station has been victim to many “piss takes” the fact is that our honest approach to Radio has rewarded us with a very healthy JNLR year after year.
Anyone who knows me knows that when I go home I listen East Coast American Jazz and folk heroes like John Gorka, Ellis Paul and David Wilcox but at 28 years of age I understand the importance of Paddy O’Brien and Declan Nerney because ladies and Gents this is what our audience are asking for.
You never give people what you think they want to hear; you should always give people what you know they want to hear. To find the answers comes down to research and good programming.
Tipperary Mid West Radio is supplying a service, and apart from my own personal involvement in the Station im hoping that this service will not be lost.
Tipperary Mid West Radio plays a massive part in the lives of people of all ages in Tipperary and I believe its paramount this service co exists with whoever wins the county licence.

As for this novel “name the tune”compition that’s running, its part of Tim Cooney’s Tuesday night show and it attracts a huge volume of people.
Im pretty sure it’s a CD a week that’s added to the pile…

I know because Tim always fecks my Music…

And the answer is………………………

know because Tim always fecks my Music…

so what your saying is that in order to guess the tune we will have to pay particular attention to your programme when is it on.

Andrew,

I'm not sure if my earlier posts upset you. It certainly wasn't my intention to criticise TMW. I guess their presentation is not so slick as the big city stations but if they're playing what you want to hear you can forgive that. I listen because I like what they play (time to come out the closet and declare that I enjoy Country & Irish).

It was a bit of a chuckle though, that a contest is still going after 82 weeks:)

As for the answer? Well, I know the tune but I just can't place the singer. Oh well, roll on Tuesday night!

J

PS: Andrew, can ytou encourage the webmaster of the TMW site to put the correct email address for the station there? The one on the site bounces.

Lets get everybody here to listen in on Tuesday. Between us we can get the answer and put Tipp people out of they're misery!

Can someone post the adress for the live stream?

Hey, if we crack it, I hope whoever phones in with the right answer will share some of those country & Irish CDs with me for bringing this splendid competition to their attention!

Tune to:

I hope they've got enough bandwidth to support us all:)

Its onto its 100th week next Tuesday. Is this some kind of a record? I can't wait to find out whe the mystery singer is. The tune's been growing on me over the weeks. I might have to go out and buy the CD when I find out who she is!
