Hi all, I was wondering why we call legal presenters s***heads and no good for nothings especially when they came from pirates.

Some of them worked verrrry hard to get where they are and yet they suddenly become s***heads!??? Yes the hypocrisy of some to deny their past makes me sick as I am sure you feel. But some don't and yet they get it just because they did well.
Is this the Irish thing again? We wish them well only to end up giving them crap when we see them do well and try to get them into nothing-ness again?

Lets be honest, it is very hard to get a gig in a legal station. So well done to those who got one.

Bono once said on a T.V. show in the back of his limo, HEY SEE THAT BIG HOUSE UP ON THE HILL? IN THE U.S. THEY SAY, WELL DONE AND I'LL WORK HARD TO GET SOMETHING LIKE THAT ONE DAY. BUT OVER IN IRELAND THEY WOULD SAY, THE BAS**** HOW THE FU** DID THAT C**** GET THAT?

This is true everyone and to be honest that is the ONLY thing that eats me up about being Irish!!

Yeah but when you see some people who've been really dynamic and entertaining on pirate radio and who then turn into advertising puppets for FM104, then what can you do?

Essentially these people used their own initiative when on pirate radio and then basically sell-out to the scripted crap on the big channels.

Sorry i should have added in that there are of course a whole load of people who came off pirate radio and who've kept their own personality and style but it's just annoying to see a lot of excellent talent wasted on crappy links written to please the marketing guys. :(

(i'm not a happy camper today am i???)

yeah, the freedom of the pirates to say things like "don't forget dis friday night da DJ Frank Kennedy flys in to Gi-gis nightclub for one sensational night of dance!".

Peadar, don't make the mistake of thinking that the guys on pirate radio have more to say than their legal counterparts. And my crappy links aren't written to please the marketing people - they're written to make a station promotion sound like fun to listeners. They are still fairly crappy links though!

Biggest difference in jock styles is that on "legal" radio you will get advice and feedback on different ways to improve your delivery. Pirate radio generally won't offer that.

Don't think the problem is with "advertising puppets for FM104" as you say but with the lazy programmers that allow them to be standard, yellow pack, liner card jocks. Even in the most restrictive format you can inject creativity and personality into a seven second link (been there done that) Lots of people here though tend to forget that commercial radio is like most other media in that it's purpose is to make as much money from as many people whilst costing as little as possible (Sky One, The Sun etc.) Having said that it is only a job and you do whatever you have to do to pay the mortgage.
