When I think about it, it all seems like yesterday. Ben, scaring the s*it out of me every sat and sunday night at 9ish without fail, spinning for 9hrs overnight, and I remember when Ro and D had just bought the MD players, my completed shift was from midnight till 5 the next day. They had to do a lot of recording......think I slept for a week after it. My first link too, it was a sunday morning, how sick with nerves did I feel! I think it was nearly 11 b4 I plucked up the courage!. Yip, Pulse has to be my fondest memory in Radio so far.
Thanks to Daragh, Ronan and of course to Mark (stay of those Vodka and Red Bulls by the way ;)) for giving me the chance.
It's so true when you say it's the wrong station on 1038 right now. Typical of the way things are run in Ireland.
Well gang if you're in Gran Canaria over the summer, check out Solar 102.5FM, Bringing music to life! Launching in 6 days, if all goes to plan.
All the best,
Cheers,
Tony.
On the day of the 5th annual reunion I thought it might be an idea to remember what made it stand out as, arguably, the pirate of the 90's.
For me Mark McCabe's Drivetime and Steve Cassidy's VO's are the first 2 to spring to mind.
What's yours? ;)

Everything about Pulse was brilliant! Can't believe it's off air 5 years!! I have Tony Dixon in the morning to thank for introducing me to Urban music. Breakfast radio has not been the same since!! All the Pulse shows all day long were excellent, i especially loved The Dog House in the evenings!! Very funny!!! :) Shame the licence didnt work out....
For me it was the first time I heard the new top of the hour jingle still my fav to this day.
The sound from the optimod.
The sound from the mic in the pulse studio alawys sounded amazing.

Can I just say I hated that MCC player. And I thought the Bill Mitchell(rip) voiceovers were the best!
All the following memories can be taken with a pinch of salt.....
In the Clontarf days the all week non-stop drinking binge (7 O Clock onwards was a blur - hey at times, it was just me and Ben on the Beer - Ben was the 103 guard dog for those who dont know)
I remember arriving in one night to discover that Mark (in his wisdom) who was on Drive before me had decided to completely carpet the inside of the studio, ceiling and all, during his show. Connor G was trying to hold up the carpet that Mark had pasted to the ceiling. Try doing your gig in that !
A very in awe (and out there at the time) JP trying to live interview Paul Van Dyk in Belvedere House.
Going along to an interview with Steve Davitt to interview this euro pop lass who we had been playing the ass off on Pulse (Double Vision - Alright) only to discover that Dara had no tape in recorder. It didn’t matter really so the tapeless interview continued during which it became quite apparent that the Double Vision entourage where more interested in planning their supplies for that party night, apparently. We made our excuses and left.
The messing going on around Halloween with quarter sticks of dynamite going off in a 5 x 5 sized room whilst jocks with headphones at max were mid link (I might add that at that time we had a slight echo on the mic with the aid of a guitar pedal)
Kevin Brannigans Late night Tweaking sessions lol.
I wont mention the incident Tony Dixon walked in on.
The days of Can we buy an optimod Can we buy an optimod Can we buy an optimod Can we buy an optimod Can we buy an optimod are gone forever to qoute a great CBDawn Tune and Mark one liner.
Anyone else from 103 here ?

I can't believe it's 5 years already. Goog 'oul Ben the guard dog... I was so afraid of him but on "brave" days, I used to hide his toys in the tree to distract him so I could get out to go home!! One day he got his own back though and attacked me... hahaha! Mrs. Brady was fantastic, if it wasnt a cup of tea, she was making me brekkie :) Anyone remember Ian the Chef, Ronan's friend from down the road who came in every so often to cook food?! And that DCC machine, it broke one day (probably from being regularly hit) and myself and Dec Pierce ended up singing the jingles live on air. Must find that tape.....

I suppose for me, it was being the station voice for almost 2 years! One fo the first stations to have a professionally produced package, thanks to a certain studio!!
Other highlights were broadcasting from the back room of Deep in Stillorgan for one of the many Pulse parties and indeed doing many of the nights of the pulse gigs on air. Speaking to various DJs, crowd reaction etc. Even words from Tony D.
On the dance floor of Deep with Declan Pierce in our Pulse Tshirts thinking we were gonna score.... it never happened!!
Also in Deep, Al Gibbs standing on a beer crate in the DJ box as he work so he could see the crowd!!!
Then theres the live nights in Marleys, and that other place that used to opposite Blackrock College..... now a kitchen store
Doing something naughty in the studio whilst Ronans ssiter was outside cutting the grass, and also having Darragh O'S come back to the studio after he heard the video been played during my show (damn tracking), the studio windows were all steamed up!!!!
Wouldnt have missed it for the world, and I was proud to be part of it........ there is more but Im too hungover right now!!

Without starting a new thread cos Im just too lazy, great night had by all last night and a great turn out! No scandal and no arguments. I think we have all mellowed after 5 years!! YES WE ARE ALL OLD!!! The lesson to be learned from last night is:
Chill out, relax, catch up with friends you havnt seen since last year! Dont hassle musicians that are just trying to have a drink with friends!
