What do people think of this guy?
After he replaced James David's on 7-10 on Energy he brought new life to the station. He has an amazing voice and I must say I found him entertaining and enjoyable to listen to. I know he's doing something for Energy now but why was his talent overseen by the legals? He was definitely one of the top 3 presenters in Energy I was convinced he would go straight to Spin. It's just another example of strong talent being ignored.
Any Comments?

I haven't really heard him that much but I did think he'd be one of the few who'd pop up on spin, he's a great voice, but I hear it's slightly manufactured. I dunno why there's a thread singling him out though, there's plenty of jocks who were on energy etc. who were expected to be on spin but didn't make it, strong talent being ignored, I don't think so. I mean, if he did send his demos out maybe he just wasn't what they wanted. doesn't mean hes being ignored, just means he hasn't found the right gig yet

Your right there, where is Vinny S and Ryan Phillips??? They were two other talented and entertaining jocks?????? I pinpointed Ross L because we all used to have him on in the shop where I worked at the time and he just seemed to be a genuinley good jock, he'd a good personality. I know what you mean about his voice, I wouldn't say manufactured but it was a bit hyped sometimes, nevertheless it was pleasant and enjoyable to listen to.
We used to listen to Vinny S on drive and then Ross L was on after him with some sort of request show. There's nothing really on that time now that's worth listenin' to except the Zoo Crew on Spin and that's a bit over the top sometimes. Just wondering did others agree. They should make Energy the way it used to be, or maybe but James David's in charge of SPIN. Energy's music and jocks were better than Spin's.

And you found this site on an ad on the radio did ye? Ross L has a totally manufactured voice and thinks he's Tony Fenton ! What are ye like??? James, Vinny and Ryan all should be doing what they are now but c'mon Ross? Even East Coast showed him the door!

Its more than slightly manufactured its very manufactured compared to how he normally speaks. Mind you is that such a bad thing ? he still sounds great on the air which is the main thing.

Why so bitchy ? what has Ross ever done to you ? and why are you questioning where Young listener works ? You dont have to work on radio or have any links in radio to be a member of this site its not a pre requesit.

No I don't work in a shop anymore, I used to and that's where I did my anoraking. I do a show on TCR, so my opinions probably don't matter to all the "Pro's" in here but I do listen to the pirate's all the time, it just amaze's me how the main people on Energy disappeared to no-where, Energy was second only to Freedom, definitely one of the better pirate stations.

There's a lesson to be learned in Energy's showcasing of the better jocks whereas Freedom have more listeners and wider appeal. Although there are no figures to substantiate this, it'd certainly be the general perception.
Even now, Freedom are going immensely strong. It goes to show that the music is doing the job better than the jocks.

I think Ross is a great jock. Yeah the voice might be a bit "powerful" if i could call it that, but its perfectly suited to a fast paced chart format, link between music bed liners, type of show. I think its a shame that legals havent seen the potential yet. I hope he keeps pluggin away at it and im sure someone will eventually. As long as he can ingnore people like Anti-Christ he'll be ok!! There are comparisons to be made with fenton yeah, but whats wrong with having stuff in common with one of the most successflu Djs on Irish airwaves in the last ten years?? NOTHING,
Keep it up Ross

Bitch bitch bitch!!!
One can only take so much!! Personally I think Ross has a great voice on air, and I think Im probably the only person who thinks it also brushs off on his off air voice too, thery are not too "unalike". Leave the guy alone. He WAS the best jock I took on to Hot Radio, and beleive me, there were very few to choose from. I heard his demo b4 it got to a legal, just by luck.
Okay his voice sounds polished rather than manufactured, this is mob mentality guys. He was picked on before, and I just reckon somebody else has a grudge against him, or most likely himself, in fact the guy is probably a 50yr old failure who holds grudges against any achiever. At Ross's age, I'm sure ther are very few people who have names on their cv such as 2FM, EAst Coast, Energy, Hot etc etc...(actually don't hold me to that, I'm sure its all changed in3yrs!! ha ha).
Bottom line, his voice IS very good, he knows it goes a little too far now and then. Its down to him to curb this when it happens. He WILL go far in the biz. He's in Hndr, and along with the experience, why won't he?, he's a hard worker and evry1 knows hard work gets you there eventually.
Anyhow, ALL the bitching comes from the people who go under pseudo's!!!!!! just like Anti-Christ.
So Anti...Where do you work?

Tony Fenton? Tony Blood.y Fenton???? One of the most popular household names, and you are trying to put him down by saying this? I don't think to be fair to Ross he's trying to sound like TF, but if he has come across like this, then, is that a bad thing? Sounding similiar I mean?? Back track to Ryan Phillips and Rick??? (no offence to Ryan, I think he sounds well, but he also faced this cra_p from people)
Don't be hypocrits please.
Ross Rant on!!!!!

It certainly is interesting the jealousy and sceptisim shown on the forum lately isnt it.
God forbid working in a shop deprived you of visiting ANY forum and to be honest I didnt think the union rules dissallowed adventure on the net, and besides unlike anti-christ who seemed to be aware of the good "Radiowaves" forum almost before it was concieved, we were all introduced to it by somebody somewhere were we not?

Members, a cairde
I would like to sincerely thank all of you who have given constructive criticism on this board and thank you for your wonderful complements. I don't know why I was singled out on but I thank "Young Listener"for listening to me. I would like it to be noted that I have no interest or intention in replicating Tony Fenton however I understand that there may have been influences from him in the early days, as I have listened to him since I was knee high, thankfully this flaw in my broadcasting ability has been rectified.
I will continue to do what Ive always done, strive to be professional and entertaining on the radio, whether this is on a pirate or local radio platform. If there are people who don't like this I can fully accept that it's not possible to please everyone, but nevertheless I wish everybody the success they deserve in their radio careers and continue to respect the comments on the board.
As some of you will be aware I am moving into different area's in radio and broadening my horizens. I would like to thank those who continue to support me in what I do. Unfortunitely I havn't been selected as one of the voices for commercial stations, but hopefully with time I can achieve this, for the moment it remains a mystical dream.
Once again, thank you,
Slán
