This would have been a brilliant wind up if it weren't actually true but unfortunately somebody has the lowest standards imaginable and has set up a dj company offering rock bottom prices for dj's. I dont know the exact prices they are charging , im terrified to find out to be honest but i can just see it now, Gold package includes a DJ who'll pick all your guests up and then drive them all home , hoover the house next day and do the iorning .

This is an opportunity to bring back random drive by shootings .

Actually I would love to know what they are charging...
Recession beating?? Get a grip lads remember people who are still having parties are looking for the best DJ available, and that is usually from referrals.. not any DJ as long as they are cheap.

I'm still getting some work in and by and large, rates have not fallen too much for mobile work. With parties and weddings, people will either trim and cut costs in relation to other peripherals such as the venue, food, flowers, gifts or decorations or they cut the party entirely. Saving €20-€50 on a DJ won't save a party whereas €2 per head on a crowd of 50-200 will save you a lot more; if they can't afford a band or DJ they simply don't book them and that saves a lot more from the bill so over the long term, some of the "My nephew's a DJ" or the bedroom crews will be likely to lose out here. Certainly there will be people looking for a gig done for €100 but they will always be there come what may; peanuts and monkeys.

The places that are minding the prices more and looking to save cash are the regular 3-7 nights a week venues; €20-€50 per night over 300 days then adds up.

Saw this emblazoned on a car/van (Astra I think) outside my local on Friday. The DJ was rock bottom in his quality too - utterly useless yet thought he was Eddie Haliwell... couldn't mix yet kept trying to; seemed to think twiddling pots was a way to make a song sound better; dodgy singing along to Maniac, the works.

anyone that is cutting cost for their wedding are not going to axe the dj, bands are more likely to get hit, which is no harm because most greedy bands offer a package with DJ included.

i was asked to do a wedding by a band, they offered almost half of what i charge and rejected of course! i later found out that make €200 on the DJ they normally get, so much for a discount package!

i never did pub gigs other than filling in, i get bored of them,

i have noticed less 21st bookings but an increase on weddings this year, so far so good.

Says it all!!

Anyone get a price yet?

Why are you even giving them status by creating a post and keeping it alive with comments?

Djing, for all the years I've been around has always had €80 - €100 DJs.
Take a google search for "DJs" in Ireland - every domain name imaginable has been used, let them off - Cheap DJs have been around a long time and are here to stay

I recently went to a well know local venue on a Sunday night and could not believe how bad the dj standard was (Not a bitch left my ego behind a long time ago). I had not been to or worked in a club for years.

TPW you will notice that none of us have put a link to their site, nobody has mentioned names that appear on said site either,
Buzzbomb's origional post states.. 'somebody has the lowest standards imaginable'

Now personally I have no gripe with any DJ who finds because of a shortage of work that they have to offer a discount or concession, that to me is part of life. This is a short term solution to a short term problem,as long as we say 'for the month of March we are giving 10% off' for example.
This does not imply that fees are being reduced but rather that a discount is being offered.

I do however have a gripe with anyone who under-cuts me to take my work ie: trying to reduce the fees charged for Weddings for example, by setting up a Ryanair of the DJ world.
This does nobody any favours, and as discussed in the DJ pay thread is mainly offered by those who are not paying tax or vat.
These individuals risk being reported to revenue, and with the industry in its current state would you not agree that this is a distinct possiblity?

Hi All,

My point is that you are giving them exposure by talking about them.

the name is on the heading for the thread ?? would not take much to find the site in question.

I, by the way have the same stance on the issuses that you point out hence my departure from clubs/venues.... talent or ability was not even considered when choosing a DJ.

concessions etc not a problem.

bands charging from €150 - €220 (one offering it for FREE) are the biggest threat at the moment.

"These individuals risk being reported to revenue, and with the industry in its current state would you not agree that this is a distinct possiblity?"

YES to the above and thats their problem if they take the risk....

The only way good dj's can survive is to start representing themselves. Get on the phone, get into your car and drive to venues, get meetings with managers and get away from agencies. Agencies charge agency fees , you dont . Simple . Venues are looking for quality and also looking to reduce their expences so its simple economics isn't it .Why dont agency dj's pull the plug on the extra fees charged by offering their services without the agency fee , if your good enough to get the gig , im sure the venue will listen to you .Theres a chance they will bring up the issue of 'oh we use the agency so we dont have the worry of a dj not turning up' , fair enough , but if enough of you get together then i cant see why you cant pull it off and give them a service without any problems.

A few agencies have dj's over a barrell , you depend on them dont you , they give you work, and the fear of being out of work unless you bounce to their tune means you do as your told . Where you work, when you work and how much you can negotiate. Agencies are now under pressure to reduce prices, so now is your opportunity to jump in . Why not , theres enough of you , all good at your job to offer a service without losing the quality, only the extra fees. I cant see any reason why you all cant meet up and put a proposal together.

Some agencys insist you cant work for anybody else or any venues that dont use their services , thats highly illegal , everybody has the democratic right to work and you are well within your rights to question that .

If you have confidence in your own ability then start pushing yourself , selling yourself and get chatting to the right people . Times are changing in your favour , but you need to put a bit of work into it.

If anybody wants to PM me , feel free, i'd be more than happy to get a list of names and help get the ball rolling.

Sorry Buzz im not workin in O Gradys again !!! There is a really bad draw on the pint of stout there and because they were paying me in beer and money thats not good enough and besides i couldnt get me gear and ended up in a fight over them leaving the kids buggies beside the speakers . I brought " her" with me and she said the kids couldnt sleep there because the warm up band "Mike Manchester and the Miracles" were playing to loud .
