I restrict my overall Oldies set to 20 mins (30 max) in any venue these days ........... of that there would be alot of 80's in there, some 70's and a touch of 90's (little or no 60's)

Funnily enough, I started out playing loads of oldies and now I don't think I do at all. Thats more to do with the venues im playing now rather than my choice as such though! If i'm in a venue where the music policy isn't restricted to chart/dance (ie a "party" music policy), then a good 45 minutes of 60s+80s always seems to go down well. Unlike Kelly, I generally don't touch the 70s (except for the jackson 5 and such) and play a couple of 60s instead. 80s is generally the most popular though!

I don't really consider 90s oldies as such yet, "retro" seems a more apt description, and if im playing 90s, then I'd do a 30 min set or so, and maybe more if I have time or they go down well.

General djing rule, but applying especially to oldies, start off with a trigger tune which will have an almost 100% chance of getting people up to dance. If they're not dancing by the 3rd tune, and there's no particular reason for it (like it being 8pm!), then certainly consider dropping the set.
