Hey Happydude, one doesn't want to give you the impression that this list i posted is everybody's cup of tea. It's only my personal classic top 20 thats all. I like the Rory Gallagher and DJ Shadow albums. Good pick.
Radio friend, thank you for your very frank list on music tracks and albums that did include Michael Franks Donald Fagen, and the brilliant Alan Parsons Project. Super ones amongst your list gotta say. I've heard 95% of your excellent choices. Of course there are exceptions, haven't heard the John Gorka, or paul Ellis tracks. I'll take your good advice and check out the web.
Are you familiiar with
"The Manhatten Transfer" "Brasil" and a track "So you Say " (1987)
Graham Parker "Heat Treatment" (1976)
Ahmad Jamal "Digital Works (1985)
Tomorrow, i'll match your excellent Top 20 track-listing of all-time classic albums.
Cheers

Euan,
Just one correction: The Neil Young album in 1972 you refer to is Harvest, not Harvest Moon, which is an album he released in the nineties.

Okay, unlike so many of you cool "FM jock" types, I was brought up on a diet of Sunshine Hot Hits 101! I therefore can't pick quite as many cool albums as the rest of ye (hi Radio Friend and Katy!)- but sure I'll do me best...and in no particular order here are the votes of the Dearg Doom jury.
"Nightfly" - Donald Fagin
"all Mod Cons"- the Jam
"never mind the Bollocks" - Sex Pistols
"londons Calling"- the Clash
"Welcome to The Beautiful South"- Beautiful South
"Choke" - Beautiful South
"rattlesnakes"- Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
"Boys Don't Cry" - the Cure
"From Langley Park to Memphis" - Prefab Sprout
"Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegtables" - Dead Kennedys
"Flood" - They Might Be Giants
"Lincoln" - They Might Be Giants
"new York" - Lou Reed
"Heartbeat City" - the Cars
"the Joshua Tree" - U2
"Under a Blood Red Sky" - U2
"The Prodigy Experience" - Prodigy
"Sgt. Pepper" - Beatles
"introducing the ..... " - Terence Trent D'arby

this is straight off the top of my head - I know I'm gonna be making amendments to this!!! lol

DD two They Might be Giants and no Jonathan Richman, reconsider please.
You might think of squeezing in Disposable Heros and De La Soul
Re Euans initial list there seem to be a number of people posting on the board with similar(ish) tastes in intelligent AOR for want of a better tag, yet no station that reflects this audience?
DeargDoom
16th July 2002, 19:13
Yeah - its very difficult to put down just 20 albums when theres loads more that spring to mind afterwards. They Might Be Giants were the first band I ever saw do Midnight at the Olympia in 1990 ... so I got into them then. Disposable Heroes had a dynamite version of California Uber Alles (Dead Kennedys), but I was never that mad into them. De La Soul - a group that were forever hamstrung by the success of "3 feet high", but I really loved "Saturday" from De La Soul is dead - I recall the 12 inch had a cool remix that Andy Preston used to (very) occasionally play on Sunset. And if we're gonna talk about the late 80's somebody has to mention the Stone Roses!!!
"Intelligent" AOR is indeed a popular choice on this board - I reckon all these people saw the cover of the cool looking dude on the Nightfly sleeve and wanted to be him! (with jazz and conversation!)

Glad to see i'm not the only one without a load of albums. Aside from some classics like Genesis, Pink Floyd n dire straits i've only got about 10 or so modern albums. I tend to just buy mix cd's most of the time like Clubmix or Euphoria for dance and then download rock onto minidisc. - anyone know of any good rock compilations around at the mo'?

Listing fifteen albums requires...
Thought
Effort
and Patience.
I generally don't like to apply one or more of those aforementioned things to my posts... so I'll keep it short and list my favourite album ever (stop laughing, now!)
Michael Jackson - Thriller... wow.
Steering off topic... Did anyone get Daniel Bedingfield's album? I had a listen to it - rather good for a debut effort! But it was entirely overshadowed by Coldplay's new album which was released that week too (as well as Sugababes and Avril Lavigne...)

Came across this thread by accident tonight. I'm actually listening to the OST of War of The Worlds (Jeff Wayne 1970's version) what an album. Going back to the start I'd have to say that I would share the same tastes as Euan and Radfio Friend. DD mentioned a song earlier on that would be my FAVE hip hop song of all time 'A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturday' by De La Soul.
Also, finally bought Songs In The Key of Life last week after wearing out the vinyl version many years ago.

4 pages and no one has added:
Smashing Pumkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Paul Simon - Graceland (the first album I ever bought!)
or even
Radiohead - OK Computer
Although I suppose I am being a little predictable!
Declan Walsh

I couldn't even start to rate my favourite albums but here are some I really love:
Dark Side of The Moon : Pink Floyd
A Walk Across The Rooftops : The Blue Nile
Electronic - Electronic
Crowd Control: Volume Two (a Compilation of Irish Dance Music) - Red Record
Going For The One - Yes
Twist - The Fat Lady Sings
Parachutes - Coldplay
A Rush of Blood to The Head - Coldplay
The Final Straw - Snow Patrol
Waiting For The Siren's Call - New Order
Unplugged in New York - Nirvana
Violator - Depeche Mode
Tears Roll Down (Greatest Hits 82-92) - Tears for Fears
The Nightfly - Donald Fagen
For me the key tests required are that I always like the thought of putting them on and that I like every (or very nearly every track) and certainly not a track I really detest. Other albums would have been on that list if it wasn't for the odd dud track.
