I was thinking .......... wouldnt it be better to list the Top Ten Pirate DJs who never made it legal (yet) and should have? What I mean is, if I were to list my Top Ten without keeping that in mind Id have either Greg or Pat at the top of the pile ........ but they'd also be at the top of my All Time or Legal top ten too ..... am I sense making?

I need wee bit more time to have a think about my list but I'll get it up soon

K, havent fully thought this through yet - but, for now, here's the first bit of my Best Pirate DJs Who Still Aren't Legal (Yet, or were already previously)

1) Al Murray (The most under-rated pirate DJ in Dublin today. Legal radio cant be too far off for him now)

2) Garv Rigby (He pioneered the Dublin dance scene when there barely was one on Sunset and then, more or less, introduced Zoo Radio to the Dublin airwaves with The Doghouse on Pulse. His legal breakthrough is long overdue I reckon, but he's upto his tits so much these days that I dont think he'd even have time for it anymore)

3) Rusty Nails (He has his knockers but the guy is an out and out pro at what he does. His production knowledge also gives him a bit of an edge)

4) Al Redmond (Not the Energy one (tho's he's good too) but the Sun 80's guy)

5) Noel Clancy (He hasnt done any real radio since the 80's but he has one of the best voices Ive ever heard in Dublin. Nice fella too)

6) Dave Lowe (why oh why did this guy pack it in?? The ex Sunset jock was hot)

7) Tim Harrington (Another guy who should do more radio)

8) Dave Lyons (Another jock from the 80's Super Pirates with a great voice)

9) Mark Kavanagh (His return to legal radio is long overdue)

10) Andrew Mangan (I was never overly mad about the guy's style but he always used his imagination)

There's a few Also Rans who I might give honourable mentions to later and Im sure Im forgetting loads (*loads*), but - for now - there's the best 10 jocks I can think of who are ex/current pirates and wouldnt sound at all out of place on a legal

Good list kelly although theres some dodgy names on it .
Garv Rigby YES , knows his stuff and had a great imagination ,sounded well and from what ive heard , he's also a nice guy .
Rusty Nails , heard him on pirate a few times and he came across as a smug'' know it all'' with very little talent . His attempt at comedy ,or trying to be funny was awful to listen to and had no chance of making it on legal radio . His voice was very irritating on the ear .
Noel Clancy , excellent vioce and should be on one of the top stations , but noel is noel and he's not bothered . shame really ,he was brilliant on nova .{lovely guy too}
Mark Kavanagh ???? not really a radio DJ but his knowledge of the dance scene is immence , would be 100 times better than Mr {i know it all } Spring on 2fm on saturdays .
Al Redmond ?? never heard of him .{sorry ]
How about Gavin Hayes ? he sounded well and had a good voice .
I heard him on hot fm a few times , he was doing well until Frank Kenned went and destroyed the art of radio and presenting .
Dave Lyons , great voice but boring as hell on 98 fm , ''that was , this is ''no disrespect to the guy but 98 wasn't his style of radio .
{nice pleasant dude though }
Back to Frank Kennedy {sorry } but he destroyed pirate radio in this country and gave it a bad name , hopefully people like Garv Rigby and the old pulse crew can rescue a bit of credibility back into the scene and give us some quality pirate radio AGAIN .

Cheers .....

The north east of Ireland may have population on its side.But what about outside there? Like it or not, there have been a few good ( as well as bad ) people to emerge.
Some of you worked outside the north east yet from there.But I'm sure you'll admit there is a point to this idea!??
So lets name names of those who did well and didnt do well.I can think of some.... can you?

Yup, he would definitely be one of my "honourable mentions" just outside my top ten.

Al Redmond ?? never heard of him .{sorry ]

He's on Sun 80's (Sun seem to have a lot of great jocks, shame its not live yet)

Dave Lyons , great voice but boring as hell on 98 fm , ''that was , this is ''no disrespect to the guy but 98 wasn't his style of radio.

Well he wasnt given a chance to ad lib in 98. It was all liner card crap he had to stick to. I still think that voice has great radio/ad/promo potential tho, and - agreed - he's a top bloke

As for Rusty Nails, I suppose we'll just have to agree to diasgree there

Any more comments on this guys?

As a matter of interest was Chris (or indeed Gavin while we're at it) ever legal?
