Was listening to Mrs. Sara Cox (Carter) this morning on BBC Radio 1. She said quote "good luck to the Ireland Team today in their world cup game, and hello to all the supporters in Ireland and in Dublin for those of you listening illegally through Freedom FM!" , just thought it was pretty funny! Looks like all the jocks on Radio 1 are totally aware of what freedom are at!

They said something about a relay in Dublin on Chris Moyles too apparently this afternoon...
It was quickly followed by something about it being on satellite here...
all good!

Didn't Simon Mayo once refer to "the station in Dublin that are illegally relaying us as an opt-out" in one of his quiz thingies?
The question is were they aware of the Swirl fm relays!

Freedom has been mentioned on many occasions over the years through Simon Mayo - Sara Cox and Chris Moyles. Its often mentioned when Sara reads out requests from Dublin, she normally drops us a mention.
Its also funny to be in the Freedom Studio when Radio 1 are being relayed as people text into freedom with requests asking Sara Cox for songs. And to answer the phone one morning for the caller to say "hello is that Simon Mayo"? brought a smile to my face...
The power of Radio...lol.
Freedom just got another mention on the sara cox breakfast show, wishing all their Irish listeners best of luck today in the footie, then played about 20 seconds of here come the good times . :D

Sara Cox mentions freedom on more shows than she doesn't mention them, listening this moring she mentioned Freedom 4 times throughout the whole show, and listeners in Dublin even more, shes going through a bit of a dustein the turkey phase to lol, and the freedom listeners seem to be encouraging it.
If you think about it, it's actually a big deal in radio, that a pirate from such humble beginnings can become such a huge phenomenan! I've heard sara say many times that she recieves hundreds of emails and text messages a day from Dublin thanx to freedom. Thats massive

Im always afraid of replying to messages like these because usually a thread on this board started to praise someone ends up with them being slagged but i'll make an exception here. Pat is the all round nice bloke of radio and deserves to do well. His production on the current freedom pakcage was very impressive for a first attempt and i think anyone who has ever met him, myself included will wish him all the best, which is what im doing now.
God Speed little feller!
Good luck

I don't think anyone will have any reason to slag Pat, hes a great bloke, who I wouldn't say has very many enemies, I'd like to add to that, the best of luck in 98 Pat. It seems Freedom are supplying a lot of people to the legal stations recently, good to see, they're a great station.

Anyone know why there aint one?
Anyone think they should have one?

As its a chart station the main playlist would be a mix of everything.
Nearly every other station goes dance at weekends so i dont really think there is much need for a specialist dance show besides there are a lot of dance songs already on the Freedom playlist as it is.

very well but they dont actually have a live mix show as such do they?? Yeah, they play commercial dance but i'm talkin bout stuff people dont know like exclusives and un-released stuff.

But why should they? They are are a chart station. NOT a Dance station. Do you not think there is ENOUGH (sorry, did I shout that?) Dance on the pirate scene? I mean, pleeeze, give Freedom a break. They do what they do, and they do it very well, and for well on 7 years now.
They play Chart, they are a chart station, and besides, as one of the learned posters above said, there is enough dance in the current charts anyway that freedom do play.
Why don't you ask your local friendly DANCE (sorry, did I shout that again) station to play exclusives and unreleased stuff. I'm sure they'd be happy to. In fact, I actually think they do. Go figure!!

Yup, I agree. If you want to listen to anything except dance on a friday or saturday night, you'll be hard pressed to find a station playing your sort of music! Even Freedom had a dance show (albeit very commercial) on Friday night with Pat Gill although I presume he's not doing that anymore.
Most people who listen to freedom want to hear songs they *know*, they couldn't care less about unreleased stuff and promos, unless its from a pop artist. Same goes for most of the gigs around the country! (except of course, in proper dance clubs).

We don't need yet another dance show. I don't listen to anything except pirate stations - if i want dance on a weekend i'll tune into one of the dance stations - Freedom are doing their stuff excellently. If you want dance tune to energy or club FM but don't diss Freedom 'cos their programming's great: people wouldn't be listening to it otherwise would they???

As a jock on Freedom i can say we play quite a lot of pre-release dance stuff, most recent Ian Van dahl - Try/ Who Da Funk - Shiny Disco Balls/ Jakatta - My Vision/ Solid Sessions - Janero/ Coloursound - Fly With Me/ Cosmos - Take Me Away/ Underworld - 2 Months Off/ Lasgo - Alone/ Oakenfold - Starry Eyed Surprise... and many more have all been played weeks ahead of general release and well in advance of some current dance pirate stations.
The reason you might think its not getting played is because we also have to play the pre release stuff from various boy/girl bands and commercial rock acts - so you may only hear 2 or 3 dance songs an hour but they do get played.
In fairness most jocks will keep the music up-beat at weekends to suit the mood but Freedom will always be commercial...
