Has anyone got any news on the much heralded TV5's inclusion in Sky basic digital package?

Rumour has it also that ntl plans to include TV5 in its new basic analogue package as the encoded CNN will be removed. It is available in ntl digital package................all this to happen when Etain Doyle sanctions the latest proposed increase in cable charges.................

It may be "the world's third most available satellite tv channel" - but I'm sure it's nowhere near the most watched!

Kind of reminds me of that thing the old Super Channel used to say... something on the lines of... "now available in over 300 million homes" (or something way over the top like that). Then they closed down (and became NBC Europe).

TV5 were testing back in the summer and were definitely talking about launching to Sky subscribers....the tests are no longer there and the story seems to have died - albeit resurrected in the form of 'coming soon' every few weeks...if you really want it badly, it is still available via analogue at 13°East & at 5°West.

How many of you are availing of and enjoying French language tv TV5 in the basic BskyB package and particularly sports fans (rugby and french football) who do not have any of the Sky sports channels or Eurosport...............
The films, subtitled in French, are also very interesting.....

And a special treat on 7/8 December when TV5 spends 24 hours in New York......material will include docu on the Irish in new York.....see EPG and tv5.org for up to date info.

All this on BskyB and in many towns/cities (Swords, Malahide, Athlone, Cork etc) on the basic Chorus package but only to 2000 who have taken the risk in going digital with ntl who refuse to guarantee TV5's permanency on their digital package.....

TV5 NOT guaranteed to continue on ntl go-digital.....

ntl are now informing customers opting to pay extra just to get their favourite, TV5, that the channel's continuing availability within the digital package is not certain...

Just a note to remind ntl that the battle is not over............
TV5 will regain its rightful place among the other public service broadcasters in the basic analogue cable service on ntl and will be available on more Chorus systems around the country by the end of the year....it is already in eight cities and towns (including the real capital, CORK) for over ten years.

but
YOU, THE INTERESTED CABLE SUBSCRIBER MUST DEMAND TV5 if you want it..........

If it's good enough for BskyB it has to be good enough for ntl and Chorus on a permanent basis within the basic package supported and paid for by the vast majority of cable customers...

They have a spokesman over here whose first name escapes me, but his surname is Cante... he does sterling work promoting tv5. You may wish to contact him, I think he was also involved in the failed Radio France attempt to get a special interest licence over here in 1999.

as for TV5 on cable in this banana republic? Sure look, Ireland after all is the country that wouldn't let Bob Geldof start an Irish satellite station, but gave Rupurt Murdoch permission to sell ads into our market. MTV now run idents as MTV : IRL while running local ads, but we're not allowed actually HAVE our own music TV station. Go figure that one out.
