The singer and entertainer Joe Dolan has died at the Mater private hospital in Dublin.
The 68-year-old was taken ill at his home in Foxrock last night and died just after 3pm this afternoon from a suspected brain haemorrhage.
Mr Dolan, from Mullingar in Westmeath, had enjoyed musical success in Ireland and around the world for over 40 years.
With his band the Drifters his first chart success came in Ireland with 'The Answer to Everything' in 1964 but he is best perhaps known for songs 'Good Looking Woman' and 'Make Me an Island'.
Mr Dolan, who was one of five children, was recently forced to cancel a number of Christmas concerts because of illness but he was at home in Foxrock in Dublin last night when he was taken ill.
Surrounded by his family he passed away after suffering a suspected brain haemorrhage just after 3pm.

It is very sad. I see CIMR are streaming only Joe's music and have a pic of him on their home page.
Well done CIMR.

Wouldn't be a fan but you have to hand it to the guy , he became a star , a big star on the cabaret circut and was a real entertainer . Fair play to him , he survived the change in the club and music scene and kept the interest going.
Go on Joe , Irish legend .

The Joe Finnegan phone show on Shannonside Northern Sound is doing a 3 hour tribute to Joe Dolan, remembering his success in life.
Fr Brian D'arcy and Albert Reynolds have already been on.

Delighted to see so many people head down to mullingar to see joe in his final resting place, RIP JOE DOLAN, you were one in a million. Just a bit perplexed novahead about cimr and the live streming you are referring to as cimr apparantly dont seem to have live streaming since the day the temp license came to an end. Glad to see that the rock have finally got their live streming up and running.

dbigcheesey, I think you will find that Hot Country CIMR are streaming at http://www.countryandirish.ie/ Click on listen live.
When we heard the sad news about Joe Dolan the streaming only played Joe Dolan tracks, it has since today returned to it's Irish and American Country playlist.

Sad to hear about Joe Dolan may he rest in peace. Nice to hear Hot CounrtyCimr playing Joes music the other day. Maybe they could do a show on the Music life of Joe. A bio and get some of his friends to tell us of their best memories of him.

Jesus dbigcheesey, you got that wrong and on your very first post at that. You checked to see was Rock streaming but not Hot Country. How do you think I knew that they were playing Joes music on the stream?
Give the guys credit where its due:notworthy , out of all stations i tuned to, they were the first to play Joe Dolan back to back.
Well done Chris. Love the write up on your home page.

Wronge Novahead! That is whats called jumping to assumptions. When Hot Country CIMR were broadcasting for ten weeks i was able to listen no problem on the live stream until the last week or so of broadcasting. I commute from cavan so the 104.2 was non existant for most of the time. Since the station had finished and indeed The Rock had come to their end i have been trying very regurlarly to access both stations on line as they had both promised. to keep the stream going.
Its very simple when i use to click on to the live link on the hot country CIMR page it would automatically direct the stream onto windows media and it would work fine. What is happening now is that when i click on the same link the redirect heads for winamp and nothing plays. I have asked a couple of colleagues to try to access it and they are experiencing the same problem-NO LIVE STREAMING.
So if yourself and Chris Adams could kindly explain how you are both accessing the station i would certainly appreciate it as i am a big C n I fan, and Novahead you know not everyone is out to put people down.
Happy New Year,
Cheesey

The original post by Marty Bog Roll was to pay tribute to the late Joe Dolan. Joe Dolan was one of Ireland’s greatest performers with a career that spanned over 40 years.
The turn-out at his funeral on Saturday was testament to the high esteem in which he was held his many thousands of fans and by the music industry itself.
During all four of our Temporary license runs his songs were always been requested by our listeners both young and old. As a mark of respect, upon hearing of his passing, we ran Joe’s music back to back for twenty four hours on our live stream.
It seemed fitting to honour a man who had entertained us for so long.
So many times we say “we will never see his like again” but it is true. In this age of manufactured pop stars, to have a career that will span over forty years will be rare.
God bless you Joe and thanks for the music.
