View Full Version : The "Pat Courtenay" thread

Hey.

It's Courtenay.

So OK, you bastards....you've piqued my interest. Anybody got contacts for Chris Carey? Phone-calls cost too much from Australia so I'd be keen on snail-mail and e-ddress.

Since you told me about NOVA 252 I can't get it out of my mind. It could be fun working with that oul' shite again....for a little while, anyway! What's his format?

So 98fm's had its worst result in 3 years! Dear old John Taylor has so many friends all over the world and I'm one of them but do you think that that "Just Another Music Station" thread might have had a serious core of truth to it? Listening on-line, I'm not a bit surprised: those two in the morning are lovely people (I know Deb better than Jim) but it's not very good is it? I've heard Liam and he's finally grown into the person he's wanted to be since school but he ain't gonna save the planet. Even "Nails," (always a soaring talent, I thought) seems to have got a bit 'comfy.'

Some of us will always be able to find another way to attract attention. Just 'cos you've been doing it a long time doesn't mean you have to put on a cardie and drink Horlicks instead of three bottles of vino after a feed of pints! Punch a cone, a tube, put on Dandy Warhols, write a few things down and take 'em into Production the next day, you got a Radio Show!

I LUUURRVED the news about the FM104 billboards! Remember that travel company in Dublin that had the g-strung bottom on the bus shelters? Perfect ass and perfect campaign 'cos the complaints won more publicity than the ads! I thought it was funny that while the bottom was on the bus-shelters, not one of them got smashed! Of course, what 104 should've done with the billboards was stick a "CENSORED" sticker on them. Better again.

Advertising revenues are down all over the world, so 104's setback isn't unusual: sales reps are under serious pressure everywhere. George Dubya's being blamed for a lot of it but I think if people realised that ads'd be even harder to get if we're all out of oil, we'd be more on the side of his rattling sabre!

Wow! How did I get there? I started out talking about Chris!

Talk to me.

Pat.

Chris is looking to challange the most popular UK station BBC Radio 2, so that is the format he's after.

There was a recent Hot Press interview which you may not have seen Pat. The link is below.

He has also said he will make an announcement about 252 by the beginning of October, one way or another.

It would be great to hear you back on the airwaves of Ireland.

Well, rumour has it they're gonna be replaced?

I'm not sure what the situation is anymore though - I heard that a while ago... :).

Welcome back to the board Pat ;)

Even "Nails," (always a soaring talent, I thought) seems to have got a bit 'comfy.'

Id have to disagree there as its the one unmissable show on 98. Himself and Claire seem to have great chemistry

Liam is also sounding excellent, Id agree there too. My only quibble is that he finds every second tune to be "such a great song" Thats probably my only complaint about the best overnight guy in ages. The amount of prep this guy is putting in deserves kudos. Fair play Liam

Chris is aiming for the BBC radio 2 market Pat. You can read a full interview with him on the subject clicking here >>>>>>>>>>

Pat does your station stream online??? Is it a DMG group station, they seem to be swallowing up stations all over OZ? I know you named it before but what is the station called you are on?

Hey, it's Pat.

Sorry it took me so long to say Thank You (!!!) for the contact for Chris, the info and the Hot Press link. I'm going to e' him right after this and see what the story is.

About the streaming in Oz: I would say that MOST of the stations here don't stream, for the reason that the Australasian Performing rights Assoc DOUBLES YOUR COPYRIGHT FEES if you do. It's a bit tough, I reckon and a pretty luddite approach to the way the Communications industry is in the 21st Century, but it means that unless your station's part of a big network or is at least in one of the relatively massive markets like Sydney or Melbourne, (and to a lesser extent Brisbane and Perth) the advertising bucks are stretched too far. The station I was (I left) working for here in Darwin is both privately-owned and operating in a market of only 70,000 and that precludes streaming. (They're greedy bastards as well, but that's a different story.)

Anyway, I'll e' Spangles Muldoon and let you know what he has to say. (I'm laughin' away here. I'm already imagining the bad language!)

G'luck,

PC.

Hey, LazerWeb!

Kind of, yeah. You just have to be making plenty of readies: of course, the other side of all that is that you could maybe up your advertising rates by pointing out that the client's ad. will go even further afield by being on the 'Net, I guess.

GEORGE LONG!!!! You were NEVER a "little shit"! (Although I must say it's nice not to have that appelation applied to oneself, for a change!) Remember that other bloke in News? Michael something? Went to work for RTE? THERE was a shit! I'll be in touch.

Well, I e'd Chris and Sybil and....we'll be talking some more, let's say.

Pat.

Hey, George!

MICHAEL LEWIS, that was the guy. "Disappeared off the face..." eh?

"Off his face" when he disappeared?

Assassination?

Or maybe the bacteria in that Flasher's Mac' of his finally got the better of him.

And what's this about "A" drink??? The name might be Long but the memory ain't!

C U, Pat.
