Bearing in mind that I'm on a budget and can't afford to plop up some kind of relay on three rock mountain - whereabouts would be the best place to put up an antenna, and again, how would I go about disguising it/keeping it safe... there are large power cables about 40 feet behind my house  - will this be a danger at all?
Also what would be considered a workable height for an antenna...four metres?

If you can avoid having the aerial directly underneath the power cables there shouldnt be a problem. Also if theyre high volltage dont have it too close to them.

If in doubt you can always phone the ESB (make out its a recieving aerial or for CB or something)

Obviously you want to get the thing as high as possible. 10 metres is considered a bare minimum

Of course consider what might happen in a violent storm, your mast blowing onto a 10kV line on a windy night will lead to some fireworks, or worse
