I am in the process on changing my speakers and would like some advice on what to buy. I am currently using Peavys, but I am being told that Dynacord with an Inter-M amp is the way to go. Any thoughts?

Joem,
I'm not a P.A. expert but a couple of questions for yourself/things to bear in mind, in no particualr order,

1. Where do you feel your current system is lacking?

2. What size rig can you transport (would bins be a partical option)?

3. Bearing in mind it's a business, how much can you spend? How many nights will it take you to make it back? Will spending the money get you more, better paying jobs

4. Have heard other DJs or bands and thought, they're sound is good (don't confuse loud with good). Find out who they are give them a call to see what they use/where they got them (what they would have done different).

5. Working from the midlands they're are plenty of places for you to deal with. Will they let you rent /try a rig before buying?

For most of the 90s I used Peavy Hi-sys speakers (up to two pairs of Hi-sys 2 and a pair of the 18' bins for large crowds/rooms). Depending again on the gig I drove them with with either or both of two CS-800 amps. I now use Dynacord speakers and amps.

What made me start switching to Dynacord? (I built up their Power Max 3 rig in bits watching/phoning Dynacord dealers frequently to pick up the elements second hand or ex-demo. I didn't do the volume of Business to go afford tobuy new.) Well, working after the bigger bands using the Power-max 5 they were getting a nicer sound (more bass/clearer vocals), with half the volume!

Being a one man outfit I went with the "3" system, lighter and more compact. (Yes the PM2600 is a heavy amp but remember it has four amps and a lot of processing in one box.

The only firm advice I will give is match the quality of your amps and speakers if you go Dynacord Chorus series or higher look at least at their "L" series amp. If your patient they do come up second hand (Sp.eakers and amp)

Let us know how you get on.

John
