If you ver wondered what happened to Suzanne Duffy, then wonder no more. If you buy today's Examiner, take a look at the Feelgood section (page 15). There you will see Suzanne Duffy (now Suzanne Higgins) talking about childbirth etc.
She has three kids these days and is a well known writer of wimmins books.
So now you know.....not that you wanted to know
She does mention in the article that she has been approached twice in the last two years to go back to broadcasting. I wonder would one of those be an independent national radio station???
Anyway, nice to see her again. My god - she's thirty five!!!!

I always liked her voice on 2FM in the early-mid 90s. I hope she will come back to National radio again...Maybe a weekend show on the "big station" 2FM perhaps?..Just like old times!
Didn't she start her radio career in her native Sligo in the mid-80s?

This is what I understand Suzanne’s movements to be in the world of radio. She started off like a lot of us in the mid 1980’s in pirate radio in the west of Ireland. I know that she did some sort of a stint on a station in one of the big holidays resorts for a while too.
In legal terms she was with Classic Hits 98FM, in the early days, it escapes me now which show it actually was, but I think it was something along the lines of Overnights and/or weekends. Then when Century got really good (just before it closed, when they had Marty Whelan, Scott & Greg) she hosted the 6-7am slot and then co-hosted the Breakfast Show with Marty Whelan.
The Century line up at the time was:
600 Suzanne Duffy
700 Marty Whelan with Suzanne Duffy
1000 Scott Williams with the Classic Ten at Ten et al
1400 Greg Gaughran
1800 Claire McKeown
1900 Mark Byrne
2200 Love songs (ernie Gallagher comes to mind for some reason)
100 Voicetracked Summer Gold from Declan Meehan
I remember this, not only coz I am sad, but that I was so impressed by the station when it relaunched one week before my Leaving Cert started that I screwed up the Leaving and had to repeat.!!!!!
Not long after that she decamped to Ore Tee Eee Radio 2 in Donnybrook for The Great Giveaway Show and fill-ins and overnights. If memory serves me right, Suzanne was one of the presenters on the overnights just as it was going down hill. At that stage they had 7 people doing one show a week (mainly because RTE is like Hotel California, ‘you can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave’). The others in that night-time crew were Gerry Wilson, Mike Ryan, Bob Conway, Mike Moloney, Paul Scanlon (at the start of this period) and Michael Cahill at the end of that period. Pretty crap stuff from RTE.
Suzanne married whilst with 2FM and had baby number one whilst there.
She left RTE in the late 90’s, I would guess around 97/98 to do her thang, which includes writing books.
Don’t ask me how I know this. I am not Barry George!!!
Now can someone tell me - where the hell is Paul Scanlon??

I must say I do miss the "live" overnight shows of the 90s on 2FM...They should go back to doing overnight shows on 2FM...Anything is better than "2FM Rewind"!!!

Paul Scanlon was the first overnight jock on Radio 2 when it went 24/7 on May 31st 1987. He and Gerry Wilson alternated 4 nights and three nights each week. He was excellent and really put a lot of effort into his show. I also remember that he had a great radio voice as well.
Paul left 2FM in 1992/1993 after doing the 7 hour overnighters. I haven't heard much about him since. It would be great to hear him back on a station.
He was originally from Watertford and was with Clive's ABC radio in the 1980's. He always played great tunes on Radio 2 and was one of the people that made me want to get into the business.
Any takers?????

I think Paul Scanlon went to RTE Radio Cork(which is now no-more).
I have always liked Gerry Wilson on the radio and his early 2FM shows like "Dial-a-number 1" at the weekends and The late night talk show "Get it off your chest" was great on at 10-Midnight(Just before Mike Moloney at Midnight) during the week.
His overnights were great for the night-owls as well.
I think Gerry Wilson is wasted on Dublins Country though.
Anyway, getting back to Suzanne Duffy!!

Momentary flashback caused by shecaughtthekaty - that Century lineup was great! Makes you wonder why they didn't make it. Great station!
Suzanne & Marty were top-notch radio in the morning. I can state that because I've always been a local radio devotee, and "stuff the Dublin-b(i)ased nationals" but my bro (an ex-pirate of the same philosophy) got me listening to Century's breakfast and I was hooked.
Such a pity Century was so short-lived, and that hyped "Century FM" relaunch, pushed by the "expert consultants" was a disaster.
So Marty & Suzanne, if you're by any chance reading this thread, take a bow, and thanks for some great memories.
