Sorry to be so tardy in bringing up the subject but from the news I read that all 6 local radios at Three Rock were on and off all day last week due to local mains problems.

Don't they have a backup generator? According to the recent 98FM application, not only do they have an autostart diesel but the facilities were to be upgraded in June/July this year.

I assume these facilities belong to Rock Solid who lease them to the stations. Did the backup supplies fail?

As for the stations being on and off, its normal practice to continue to run the engine until the mains has been back for about half an hour just in case there are more glitches.

Anyone know (or want to opine) what went wrong?

Maybe they (ahem) forgot to put Diesel in it :-)

I was up at Three Rock on Monday, saw a B.T.S van at the main radio mast(98fm,Newstalk,Spin,etc),the B.T.S engineer explained that they were is the process of fitting a new generator, the old generator was not fit to supply enough backup since the extra stations came to air.The failure of the E.S.B on Monday was not connected to the faults prevous in the week,at least this is what the E.S.B told me.;)
Hope the electric supply is now o.k,been to Three Rock fives times in the last fornight, more times than all of last year

Always the way; just when you've got the reserve in bits, the main fails. How often I have been there myself!

Or the reserve antenna is away getting overhauled the very week that lightning strikes on of your antennas.

Murphy's Law in action!

The Crosshaven Co.Cork RTE site for FM Radio (88.2,90.4,92.6,97.8,100.0) and TV was off for a couple of hours this afternoon (Thursday), due to an ESB outage I am informed.

At madradio we have our ups system bought it in Sean Duffs 160 euros
bargain 18 speed. If the power fails its up on the blocks and peddle
like mad you would be surprised how much power you can get out of
a dynamo rerouted full 6 amps in 18 gear even thinking of an upgrade
to a 21 speed to see if we can power the studio fan get hot in there
especially if ur peddling like mad.
