So how was it for you? I found it to be quite an odd night. Town didn't seem to be all that busy - what was it like in the suburbs? I ended up walking down the South Circular in search of a taxi and every fourth house I passed seemed to be having a party (bloody cheapskate students etc etc)

Who worked the longest hours? I hear tell of one DJing legend that played from 6pm till 2.30am .. jesus wept!

Complete anti climax here . Place never really got going and was slow to fill. I noticed a lot leaving around 1.30 and the athmosphere just wasnt there.
Im getting similar feedback from others that people were just interested in getting drunk .

Very tough gig, Wedding 9-2. Incredibly hard getting the floor full for Midnight, .... crowd just treated the whole thing as just another Wedding , I played out of my socks and gave it loads, all big party songs and sod all reaction.

Had a wedding to do last night. Band started late so I didnt have to do the New Years bit, I started at 12.30. Sat in my car listening to the radio at 12! What can you say at a wedding, play the tunes, client happy, got my money and went home!

With clubs charging 25 euro upwards and taxis charging double then im not surprised some venues were quiet.
One club i know of let their members in free before 11.30 , place was heaving and the bar profits were huge , it was also good PR for the club and a neighbouring club suffered ......... they were charging 20 euro .

Tonight saw the end of the party buzz with huge figures everywhere and if anywhere is busy again this week then the country has a serious alcohol problem to deal with .

Im off to the travel agents .

Thumbs down to the bar in Harcourt Street that were charging 30 euro into their shithole (clue ... its not D2, Coppers, The Odeon or the POD). Why?

Mine was empty, maybe 30 people. Wasn't expecting much though so wasn't let down, NYE has been slumping further and further each year!

I have to say I was in a fowler on NYE. Won't name the venue for obvious reasons but not only did they want me to work an extra 4 hours on the night but for the same money as a normal saturday night (which to be honest is not great) The manager got it into his head that I should be grateful for the work throughout the year that he gives me  Well I am but he was paying the rest of the staff double money so fair is fair. I sould have packed up and gone home... anyway it was a good night (money aside) but like other's slow to start but they stayed til the death. By the way anyone interested in a gig on a saturday night :nutter:

Have to say I got on just fine......a pretty eclectic mix of stuff for a varied crowd, but everyone was happy - the crowd, me, the manager and staff - called it a night at 1.30, on the usual post-good-gig high, and in plenty time to be back in my own local for a few afterwards, which was followed by a house party til 7am :nutter:

Some gigs can be a chore, but had fun and won't have a prob doing it again next year (and esp happy that they've asked already :D )

Funny that Frankie just put up this. I remember when I was managing a bar/club in outer London the company wanted to charge stupid money on New Years Eve millennium due to having higher cost (lets forget about all the profit made during the year). I fought tooth and nail with my area manager to have free entrance as we always did apart from 11.00 onwards. In the end we were ticket only but the tickets were free. The tickets were used to give something back to the customer and to control to a certain amount who was coming to the venue. Well guess who was packed on the night when all the other bars and clubs in the area were empty. The industry on a whole tried to rip off the public on the millennium and the public said no. In my area (not geographic but division) we were the only ones who made a hugh profit on the night. I think like England the Irish are starting to get sick and tired of been ripped off. When will the owners see sense and realise there is a point that they can go and no further. I would guess with low money takes this year and the arrogance that a lot of them have that they will still do the same next year. Greedy bastards just like the breweries in England. The strange thing is if they played fair they would make more money why is it so difficult to see. In my 8 years in England in clubs and pubs I never came in short on my Christmas bonus as the places I managed always bet their budgets for that period and I put this down to seeing the customer as a asset and not something to take the piss out off. Fair play to all who had house parties I bet you they had a whale of a time. Makes me mad to read about the manager who thought the DJ should be great full for the work he got during the year and not wanting to pay him the extra on the night I would have never treated my staff that way.

It's true - and it doesn't take much for a bar, venue or club to offer a gesture to its regular clients; it doesn't take much, and doesn't have to be a huge gesture, but it does promote a feelgood factor and makes you feel appreciated, which makes you go back and also recommend them to friends.

Slightly off-topic, but a certain pub in Raheen - Collins' - looked after its regular lunch-goers by giving them a free Christmas lunch; a nice gesture, and one for which they should be commended and recommended.

I think its fair that DJs, Bar/Club Staff & taxi drivers to get double pay on new years eve, at the end of the day customers tend to make a big night out of it and (where reasonable) they tend to spend more money. If done right clubs could make a killing - i know one bar owner who did the same as EL (Free in with tickets for regulars) and his bar was packed from 6pm till 3am.

And any manager that thinks you owe him a favour for entertaining his crowd... well lets just say i'd never get on a boat if i knew it was sinking. Do you think he was doing the overtime hours for free?

I remember the club i was at for the millennium was 75 Punts in!! I still think that town hasnt recovered since the millennium. I think it's great that irish people tend to go house parties on NYE, clubs need to respect all their stakeholders.

For example - The smart thing for a club to do would have been to Buy a shed load of champagne (wholesale you can get a nice bottle for 9.99) and sell it for say 30 a bottle, i think most punters would be impressed with that and it'd increase profits enough to cover wages.

Relative to the overall costs of running a nightclub staff costs arent that major, they should look at it as a bonus after a busy xmas period!
