Chris Moyles.

Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion on him.

His time filling in for Zoe Ball on Radio 1's breakfast in 1998 was up there with the funniest, freshest radio i've ever heard.

I actually preferred him on the 4am-6am slot though, where he got away with murder!

i agree , moyles would kick ass and change breakfast radio here .
only problem is , the rules laid down by the powers that be, would have him off the air within days .

please lets have some real names here ,quality proven dj's and not names as posted by preset no 3 in his last post .

cheers

What the hell is John O Hara doing these days.... prime candidate.

Colm Hayes wasnt bad jocking on his own.

On the lighter side, Marty Whelan! or even Darragh O Dea (ho ho ho)

Dont be slagging off Marty!!!....He was HOT on 2FM until he left to do breakfast on Century 100 in '89

marty was brill on 2fm but that was almost 15 years ago, unfortunately theres not any decent new talent out there and please dont insult our intelligence by suggesting people like dara o dea , gavin hayes , they'd be way out of their league for gods sake .
breakfast radio over the years has been presented by some of the biggest and most talented names here and across the water .
noel edmonds , chris evans , colm hayes , dempsey , danny baker and of course not forgetting a certain mr wogan .
i think we all have to question john clarke's ability as a station manager or what ever title he holds because the garbage we are subjected to with turbity is embarrasing and has taken breakfast radio back 20 years .......truth is , jobs for the boys still exists at 2fm and if people like rick o shea ,power , mccabe , are stuck on nightime gigs then we'll still be listening to the same old sh**e for the next 20 years .......

As far as Im aware it was the outgoing Director of Radio that gave Ryan the position, not John Clarke!

The thing about breakfast radio is that it should be waking people up, not sending them back to sleep. No disrespect to Tubridy, but he just doesn't fit the bill, not only on a breakfast slot, but on the national 'youth' station.

You'll reduce me to tear-filled nostalgia next!

Speaking of Bob Gallico, has nobody mentioned Pat Courtenay yet?

I was just about to mention Pat actually.
It's a shame we don't have someone like Chris Evans, Chris Moyles or Jonathan Ross here in Ireland.
Pat would be one of my choices, or Charlie Wolfe, but only if he returned with his zoo format from Atlantic.

declan and bob were the dogs bo****ks on nova but somehow i dont think they'd be suited on breakfast in todays market , but then again they couldn't be any worse than what we have and at least they'd keep us listening ......
forgot about courtney {sorry } i reakon he'd be quite entertaining but lets face it lads ,do you really think 2fm are going to to employ somebody with knowledge of breakfast radio????

Staying Alive, a pretty good top 10 line up. However, i wouldn't be quite as confident as you with Sarah Cox given her dramatic fall off in Ratings of late on BBC Radio 1`. Apparently her breakfast lost a quite sizable amount of listeners to the commercial stations. The question that needs to be asked is the audience getting tired of her, or are they getting tired of the breakfast radio format per se? I would say a bit of both.

Radio 1 needs to do something fresh and different. I just don't know what, its a tuf one. However, they gotta do something real fast or else they will lose whatever listeners they have left to the commercial stations. That ain't good for radio.

i agree sarah cox has lost listeners ,not really sure why though ,i liked her when she first took over the slot but i think most brits are looking for something different and they have such a wide choice .
chris evans was probably the best in the last 10 years and everett was just such a lunatic, listenung to him was compulsive and unpredictable .
anyway euan ,at last we agree on something dude ....

ya i guess so. Anyhow, i gotta say someone like Chris Evans or even a Howard Stern soundalike in the musical sense to inject some vitality into Radio 1's listenership and programming. However, I guess the BBC won't have him back given his pretty bad past record with Mattew Bannister.

Who Knows what will happen!

Mark and Lards short tenure on the Brekkie on BBC Radio 1 was pure radio genius. Unfortunately their accents were used as an excuse for the stations inability to promote them - Sara Cox is the biggest con performed by BBC ever.

See The Shirehorses for evidence of their genius. Even whatshisface off Newstalk 106 nicked their Phony or Pony and its many variations.

As I remember, they called it the Brekky Trekky. Anyroad, when Declan Meehan and Bob Galligo combined on NOVA's breakfast, it was as good as Irish radio has ever been.

As individuals, they never could replicate it. Proofing, possibly, that you cannot create chemistry. The chemistry between this pair coupled with the station's music is, in mind, why NOVA is still regarded as highly as it is,

"As I remember, they called it the Brekky Trekky."

Yeah... as far as I remember someone singing "Decky wecky (Declan Meehan?) on his little brekky trekky"

Heh. And I was only born around that year - not too shabby of a memory :P

The worlds best breakfast jock must be Rick Dees at Kiss.He is funny, entertaining and warm. His show is all about today. The gossip and the stars are quality. Its a must listen that makes you feel good like evans did at Radio 1.
He also works very hard to be consistent.Every day is 100%.Tarrant on Capital is up for it too every day.Its like what Roy Keane has inside him when he plays football. No place for second best.Just quality.

I think Evans was probably the best breakkie radio in the last 10 years and he's badly missed on the airwaves, everything he did was original , funny, entertaining and unpredictable .
Wogan is still KING in the mornings , a brilliant broadcaster who dosent have to try too hard because it just comes natural to him .
Still though , my first choice would have to be Kenny Everett on radio 1 and radio 2 in the 70's , i could be here all day writing about him and how good he was, but if anybody on the board knows anything about radio , then you'll know what im talking about .

John Everest who did brekkie back in the 70s on Radio Dublin 253.
Where is he now I ask myself?
