This has been driving me nuts since I read it earlier. Then I remembered that Rick Ghastly was a spoof character I know from somewhere. It's a play on Rick Astley. But who played Rick Ghastley? And what the f**k is this thread about!

Rick. Anorak. Help! I'm sure Euan would know!

Rick Ghastley was a Bob Gallico character on Energy. It was born one Christmas, 1986 or 1987 which one Im not sure. Is the Rick Ghastley who posted above Bob himself?
Slicklink, I dont see what any of this has to do with the Coast FM clip? Can you enlighten us?

I'm sure Ger Roe will.................

I heard that clip myself Slicklink. NRG103 is right, i don't see the connection. I rememebr the Bob Gallico character now. Vaguely anyway. I was young at the time.

I'm sure Ger Roe will.................

You made the statement Slicklink, and said it wasn't all that cryptic...so why can't you...out of interest, like?

Some further light thrown on this..

Somebody asked Bob Gallico on the CC site if Rick Ghastly was him.

He said, I did once do a recording of "When I Fall In Love" as a send-up with Pat Courtenay in the Energy Days but this present incarnation is not moi.

Brian..... it was just a wild guess I assure you (ha!) and I'm not going to add to the intrigue as I can see your very curious....... ho ho ho

Slicklink,

Are you suggesting something in your post about me? If you are I'd rather you'd just come out and say it - or pm me. You seem to know something about this thread that the rest of us don't, so why don't you just come out and say it?

PS I am very curious about it because I was a big fan of Energy 103.

Relax man........... there was nothing suggestive about you in that post (was there ????) and Brian......... I know nothing more than you do !!

your still very curious though eh ?

(I was presuming that the initial poster may have been a former Coast jock (perhaps Keith himself, thanking Ger for the airing on Sunday - and their is a Rick Astley tune in one of the link which did sound kinda ghastly as the tape played was slightly wonky)

hope that allays your fears of being in someway involved in this intriguing drama.....dun dan deeehhh

What ya reckon, will you go with that ?

I can understand Brian's enthusiasm for all things Energy 103 related.

It was, and still is, an incredibly understated radio station, which suffered - if you can call second or third most popular in Dublin suffering! - as a result of the Hot Hits format at Sunshine, and the popularity of the Q. Any other period it would have been undisputed nr1.

I think i can shed some light on this thread.
Clips from Energy (Nova) Power 103FM have recently been added to the site and in one of them, Pat Courtenay and Bob Gallico (as ever seeking ways to make easy money) created the character Rick Ghastly. And as Rick Ghastly's (who posted here) website link directs to the Radiowaves page about Energy, it is a safe bet that this is what he was referring to.

Slicklink may be right about Anorak though, maybe he was referring to the Anorak Hour clip, so there could be some crossed lines about this whole thing!
