I got a copy from cart some years ago and always presumed that the CB RFI had occurred while the song was being transferrred. Didn't realise its on the master of the song itself. Jolieshan - where are you for this one?

Yes Indeed There is interference from what seems to be something like a CB.I'm sure I made a post about this before.I think I even made a post about this on Cliffords website before he passed away hoping that he might himself tell us the background on it.I might fire it on Cool Edit during the week and see if I can make out what it is.
It seems that there was some type of interference picked up when it was being put down on tape all those years ago.

Terry Wogan might be the man for you...I know Wogan is one of Cliffords greatest fans and has an involvement with "The friends Of Clifford T Ward" as does Tim Rice if I'm not mistaken.

Any chance that it's deliberate, implying that's what prompted the "home thoughts" ?

It wasn't deliberate. The story popped up on a BBC Radio 2 special and in Q Magazine a few years back. The CB belonged to a courier parked outside the studio. The interference was initially overlooked, but when it was noticed they decided to leave it in.
