Isn't it time that we moved on from talking about Nova all the time. Admittedly it was a great station, but wouldn't it be better if we put our heads together and created something new, exciting and something that kids (at the age that we were when Nova was around) will want to rave about in 2022,
It's a disgrace that the PD of the national pop station is still playing doctored Nova jingles on a 'Mom and Pop' radio show. Chris Cary was a creative radio mind, with his focus on making money. That is what this game is all about. But that was 19 years ago.
We need a Chris Cary for this generation that will create fun, intelligent, memorable radio.
I'm not going to suggest wild ar*e things like deregulation, lets work within the constraints to make great radio and stop looking back longingly on what was really just a short period of time. People these days forget that we have the legal infrastructure to build stations that will last and last and last.
Technology has now given us the ability to be better prepped, better presenters/broadcasters etc with more time to think about what we do. Let's use that to make great radio.
We owe a debt to Chris Cary, but also to Robbie Robinson and Pierre Doyle. They all gave us great stations and they introduced levels of professionalism that we had never seen before. they created the impetus for the state broadcaster to get up and do something. We now need to be pioneering in new concepts, styles and levels of professionalism.
Had the Beatles reformed in the late 70's they would have cheapened their legacy. Nova returning will do the same. It was great at the time, but it is time for something new.
