View Full Version : Is it time to leave Nova in the past?

Isn't it time that we moved on from talking about Nova all the time. Admittedly it was a great station, but wouldn't it be better if we put our heads together and created something new, exciting and something that kids (at the age that we were when Nova was around) will want to rave about in 2022,

It's a disgrace that the PD of the national pop station is still playing doctored Nova jingles on a 'Mom and Pop' radio show. Chris Cary was a creative radio mind, with his focus on making money. That is what this game is all about. But that was 19 years ago.

We need a Chris Cary for this generation that will create fun, intelligent, memorable radio.

I'm not going to suggest wild ar*e things like deregulation, lets work within the constraints to make great radio and stop looking back longingly on what was really just a short period of time. People these days forget that we have the legal infrastructure to build stations that will last and last and last.

Technology has now given us the ability to be better prepped, better presenters/broadcasters etc with more time to think about what we do. Let's use that to make great radio.

We owe a debt to Chris Cary, but also to Robbie Robinson and Pierre Doyle. They all gave us great stations and they introduced levels of professionalism that we had never seen before. they created the impetus for the state broadcaster to get up and do something. We now need to be pioneering in new concepts, styles and levels of professionalism.

Had the Beatles reformed in the late 70's they would have cheapened their legacy. Nova returning will do the same. It was great at the time, but it is time for something new.

I hear what you are saying..

here's a thought though...

yes, nova was great 20 years ago, but time has moved on.

I don't know how I'd feel about Nova coming back...I'm also unsure if Chris could make it work after so long.

one thing I am sure of is that I genuinely feel that the station that Chris Cary would put on would be quite a good station (the bit I'm unsure of is how good). I dont think that he should call it Nova though.

Chris, I'm sure, is a bit of a strange guy. If you look at his website, he rarely says much, but he came out with some pretty knowledgeable stuff about the techical side of the 252 frequency the other day.

I think he should be given a chance to do it.

We should leave Nova as the great station it was in all our memories and only tune into the Anorak Hour to hear it.

I have little doubt that Carey could produce something worthy again though. The man is passionate about radio and has a business mind which always seems to be years ahead of everyone else's. Witness Nova itself, radio b/c via satellite offering opt-outs across the nation, and if you heard today's Anorak Hour, there was yet more evidence.
