Why Cant People come on here and give there opinion.

Ok so I said I thought INN's service could be better I did not say anything really bad did I.

Every time someone says anything about anyone on this the same Gobshites come on saying "im so sick of all these wannabes on here why dont you get a job in radio bla bla bla"

Im not a wannabe and Im sick of people being told they cant have their opinion on this website its a forum as long as no one uses bad language or gets too personal where is the problem.

Maybe Radiowaves should change the site to back patters .fm would that make you happy then.

I dont like negativity and everybody has talent and while we should compliment it is ok to give constructive criticism because if we go around patting each others backs we will never learn. I get constructive criticism from my bosses all the time but do I go mad at them NO i take what they have said and use it to make me even better. I do not let my ego stop me from taking advice from others.

So if people dont mind this is a forum and it is ok to say that something is not good as long as we do it with some style and decorum.

Add my name to the list too. Completely sick and tired of the back slapping and attacking anyone who criticizes a show or jock.

If it's constructive criticism, it's fair, and doesn't have an agenda, please....let's discuss it rather than have a hundred pals of the criticised on taking swipes at you.

Im with the doctor on this one.

If any aspect of someones presenting style or show content is criticised, the buddy network mounts up and forms a hunting party. To be honest, its bloody annoying.

As a recent sufferer of abuse ( most of it in private and pretty nasty ) I couldn't agree more. If someone was to attack, for example, Ken Hammond as a news reader then the chances are that no comment would be made in his defense as Ken would never dream of looking at a site like this and would find the whole thing laughable and so would most of his friends but if someone dares to attack in any way shape or form a former recent pirate then may God have mercy on his soul.
In this respect I find the forum lacking and I would also go along with the idea of real names for users. But as someone who defended Phil I would also point out that defense of someone you admire need not be merly back slapping but genuine respect.

Again, I agree with the doc on this one.

:frust: Agree with all that is said.
Comment or compliment, they are all welcome, except some individuals take it to the extreme, and well get personal.

Yup totally agree! But for as much as you say this Doctor Funk, most members dont like a negative opinion said about them, thats where the hand-bags start flying usually, but whats gotten my goat (His name is Timmy!) over the past year or so are snidey sneakey petty remarks that some resort to,as the aul saying goes if you got something to say, say it,(IF its a sensitive issue,a simple PM wud prob be best),Believe me I know all about the "Buddy Party",vicious I tells ya,vicious!

I never post on this site but I do take a look every now and then....

It has however got to the point where I do feel I need to engage in this bo@@ocks.

What I have observed over the last couple of months is the minute one person posts a new thread with "why is x so Bad", or "why is this DJ a pile of arse". There is a whole avalanche of idiots who, I think at this stage, have a template saved on Word with a load of cack saying you shouldn't be on here telling people off and making statements like that!

THIS IS A FORUM YOU GOBSHITES.... Def:

A public meeting place for open discussion.

A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper or a radio or television program.

Now read and learn the above meanings... This may help.

Instead of a thread being made up of genuine interesting debate and discussions (which is one of the reasons coincidently that I started to log in here), the majority is made up of planks posting pointless arse childish comebacks like,

"you can't say that, he's great"

"I knew him once, he said hello to me, he’s lovely, you can't say that"

“Why don’t you try it, if you think your so great, you get a job on national radio”

or the best

“tell us your name if your so confident!”

TELL US WHY THIS PERSON OR THIS PROGRAM OR THIS THING THAT IS BEING DISCUSSED IS WRONG, without taking up unnecessary space that the rest of us have to trawl through just to find the decent posts with interesting points for and against the topics.

I have now got off my soapbox and have set it on fire never to return...

Lads grow up! :swearing:

Oh dear, I feel responsible for this ranting but it seems as though you are missing the point of my original response to the INN thread.

Freedom of speech is welcome. All criticism, “constructive” or otherwise is criticism. And we are all entitled to our opinion as long as we recognise that it is nothing more than our opinion.

It takes all sorts and, like you no doubt, I’ve met many people I don’t like. It doesn’t make them bad people or inferior in any way. Broadcasting is simply people working in a radio environment and you’re not necessarily going to like them all. But that doesn’t make him/her bad at their job. Unfortunately, those of you who feel it is appropriate to slam someone’s work seem to be forgetting that you’re making unfounded negative comment about someone’s livelihood. For many it is only a job but we’re proud of our work and depend on it to keep the bailiffs away.

The main priority in terms of employment contracts for an on-air talent, in commercial local radio, is to put bums on seats. It’s a numbers game. And different service providers are looking for different bums, i.e. targeting specific markets.

I don’t believe in “back-patting” and, to be honest lads, I won’t loose any sleep if I’m to read on Radiowaves tomorrow that one of you thinks Michael Reade is the worst -whatever. Why would I as it wouldn’t affect my audience figures and I’ll go to work again the next day and the day after until my AQH’s or Share drops.

What I was suggesting originally is that this personal mud-slinging is of no benefit to you advancing your own career, if that’s what you wish. It would be far more productive, I feel, to examine what’s going on in radio. For example what pressures are staff under? Are you listening to someone coping while a PC is rebooting? Or are they speaking and listening to an engineer on talkback at the same time? And if you feel he/she is so crap, why are they in their job, how do they capture their audience and what does all of this say about what you are doing?

Oh and I’ve always felt that the day you think you know it all, should be the day you change career. Better I’d say to listen and learn.

Just some food for thought,

Michael.
