View Full Version : So loud...

How come Club FM is so loud compared to other stations? I'm not sure if it's just my reception - but it seems like it's so loud that it's distorting quite badly.
Are they even using an audio compressor? Does anybody even listen to this station?
As this is the first time I have heard it and I've been checking it out over the last few days - I can honestly say it seems like a waste of space.
Sorry guys, but that's just my opinion!
The playlist is VERY poor. What kind of audience is it targeting? I would assume they are going for something a bit harder than Hot, but not as hard as Kiss. But they are all over the place - and hardly any new tunes on it.
Ok, that's my rant over for now! :)

Have to agree waste of time
(but has great potential)
They say loud is good but where I live it comes
in very well and is even coming over hot overmodulating and bleeding all over hot some
tracks are also louder then others not limited
well .
Have to say if your into dance music depending
on what you like nova future mad and kiss is
probly what you are listening to with the under
11 population probly listening to poor oul hot.

Just want to add nova play house/funky house Future play underground stuff/house more deeper and more heavy mad play trance music and kiss
play hard house progressive hot play the kiddy scooter stuff but we
could really do with a techno station and even more surprising a rnb
station which is not done energy touch off it but I think they would
do very well if they went all out . also forgot to include freedom
who are doing an excellent job spin could take a long hard luck at
them and take a page out of their book absolutly super station doing
a great job. My issue with spin its music policy is all over the place
metal to dance to rmb to god knows what it makes me spin all right spinning and dissy at times!

I seem to remember that the old Energy88 and Power FM were very techno oriented.
I wouldn't imaging that a dedicated RnB station would do very well, unless it was targeting a London audience.
Energy 94 could do a lot better by adding more specialist programming and playing less commercial, although I think the specialist shows they already offer are arguably the best in their chosen genres amongst all of Dublins stations.
With regards to Spin, I find their weekend specialist programmes very samey. A bit of variety wouldn't go amiss and they'd do well to add perhaps a trance show and a hard dance show.

Yes Club to be honest could do alot better than just a automated station.99.1 regardless of the audio levels always went over 99.4...
Future(which I am listening more and more to) remind me of the old Energy (88.1) I like their formatt, and regardless of their signal nearly always listen in.
Also with Freedom,I would agree they are doing brill at the mo!Energy are slowly climbing again, getting their, but sadly Hot hasn't improved. To be honest I would find it hard to imagine Hot improving, the lack of investment and effort put into the staion would hardly give me any other than to think that it will continue the way it it,that also goes for Club

JD - in regards to your comments about there not being much new music on it... it was so much better (imho of course) when there was JUST the club classics on the playlist. Energy play a lot of new dance music, so there's no lack there. I listen to club when I want to hear some fairly decent trance type stuff - not just whatever is new at the moment (or in hots case, the latest scooter tunes). You say they are targetting harder than Hot but less hard than Kiss. I think it's more a case of targetting an older audience than Hot than harder as such.
250-Watt: Like it or not, I think Hot have quite a large audience, so it's debatable on whether they NEED to improve or not. Their listeners obviously couldn't care less if the DJ can talk properly or not, they're just in it for the "bangin bud wha" type dance music.
Back to the original point, I didn't really notice any majorly above normal sound levels. Show's how much attention I'm paying :)

I'v given up even listening to this anymore unless i'm really stuck (the mornings if kiss is off) but the distortion is awful to listen to and the playlist seems to be very limited ... as in theres maybe 20 tunes being looped .............

My mate is 100% convinced they went live this week and he heard a "DJ Fabio" linking on air. Is he getting it conflustered with Kiss 94?

Yep, and I ain't heard Club live at all.
It's still sounding rather scrathcy - and I know exactly why that is now. I've seen the setup as well, it could be so much better. But it's just another advertising machine - if the ads go out every 30 mins, nobody seems to care otherwise.
Just my opinion, please feel free (RayG / Vinny etc) to give me stick if you think otherwise!

they are not as bad as the ads on Hot Radio, the Gigis ad goes on for about 3 months, and the ad for the garage is so long I grew a beard while listening in.

Club is complete shite! It has know listeners what so ever. I think Kennedy made a huge mistake buying this station, it doesn't hatter how much he plays the ads nobody is listening!

I'm not aware of any new link or new processor being installed. Maybe there has been - but I doubt it.

I know somebody actually went to the bother of normalising all the .mp3's on the PC, maybe this has helped...

Yes maybe def... not as loud sounding now h.t is louder now.
lots of rumours about the station starting up soon
true / untrue
JDxtra
25th September 2002, 12:01
I'd say untrue to be honest. I don't see any activity to indicate it's going live. I have heard reports of Ben Murray spreading such rumours around about him taking over the station, but again - I am not aware of anything.
Then again, I don't know everything!
